I use comment time stamps as bookmarks on a thread to return to that spot, but they're not working like they used to. If I've ended up somewhere else on a page, then hit "refresh" the page sends me back to the bookmarked comment for a split second, and then back to where I had been before refreshing. This happens on the front page and in Ask. FF 3.55.

HTML Error with small tag?

HTML error? Using a "<" sign inside small tags seems to have done it. Over here, in the preview area, my comment worked fine, but did not do so well once posted. I wanted to make a <><> (without the dots of course.)

Comment instead of thread number in Fuzzy Favorites.

On this activity page, the "more" on the first item links to http://www.metafilter.com/2839866/We-know-what-happened-because-he-said-yes#2839866; unfortunately, we haven't reached 2.8M posts on MetaFilter. Also, the same comment appears as item 3 of the list, but this time the "more" link works (gets to the right comment in the existing thread). Windows 7; FF 3.5.5; logged in.

Timezone bug in Ask?

Timezone bug in Ask? There appears to be a problem with the user time offset setting & AskMefi. Currently, my local & system time is 9.38am, and my user timezone is set to +17hrs (Aust east coast, no DST) from server time. Mefi, Meta, Music & Jobs posts & comments all show correct local times (e.g the most recent post in Mefi shows for me as October 6 @ 6:33am), but Ask doesn't seem to reflect my timezone properly - the time in the header bar is OK, but posts and comments (e.g. this one I made a few minutes ago) show without the offset i.e. "posted by Pinback at 4:17 PM on October 5", instead of "posted by Pinback at 9:17 AM on October 6". Anyone else seeing this?

Bug report: Flagging in Google Chrome The dropbox for flagging a post appears but does not open up in Google Chrome 4.0.221.4. Clicking anywhere on the dropbox has the same effect as clicking the x to dismiss the box in any other browsers.

I stupidly clicked on that post that was just deleted that showed the terrible picture and tried to force videos. None of the videos opened-- the browser bounced around. I force shut down my computer by holding down the power button. Now whenever I open firefox 3 on OS X (leopard) that website appears. What do I need to do to fix that/secure my computer? I am posting this to metatalk in case anybody else was also affected.

I like to call out the commenters in this post on credit card billing for being awesome. The folks here expanded on a story that was otherwise a quirky human interest incident. Their fascinating discussion on the possible reasons why this happened were much more informative than the news articles. These comments reflect the bright and inquisitive community that's here, and how it can teach a person who knows nothing about credit card processing or databases a thing or two. Thanks metafilter!

URL problem in "my favorites"

There's a bug in the links on the MetaTalk "my favorites" tab. On the my favorites tab of MetaTalk, the date/time link to all the favorited threads (for example, "Jul-7-09 at 9:16 PM") is messed up. The first part of the URL goes to http://metatalk.metafilter.com.metafilter.com.

Facebook Knows Me By Name, Not Number

PonyUpdate Request: The "Also On..." section of user profiles should allow you to link to your fancy new Facebook username. I just updated my social networks on my profile by adding my Twitter username, but while I was there, I thought I'd change my Facebook link to my new username. I was told that my change caused an error, and I don't know what profile number I just deleted. Can one of the admins figure out a way to link to Facebook profiles by using the username?

Blank MeFi

So, ever since I applied the 3.0 software update to my iPhone, I've run into this problem where occasionally pages (AskMe, MetaTalk, and MeFi proper) load blank... I've re-produced it on two different iPhones - one a 3G with 3.0 and one a 3GS with 3.0. The page seems to render correctly - the right color, the header, so on, so forth, but where there should be content instead there's just.. nothing. I'd say it probably happens 10% - 15% of the time. If I reload the page, it comes up just fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I just use the mobile version of Metafilter and shut the fuck up? Probably.

Minor Recent Activity bug within: If I remove all my comments under the "My Comments" tab in Recent Activity it seems to break the footer and remove the ability to manage recent posts. You will need to navigate away from the tab and then back to it to reveal the bug. (FF 3.0.10 & Safari 3.2.1, OSX 10.4.11)

Screwy Links and Reloading Issues

I'm not sure if this a MeFi bug or something with my browser or set-up. I have experienced this on different computers and tried reloading Firefox, but I think that it is still going on. What gives? Is it some sort of local proxy or cache issue? I'm at work right now and it's definitely doing it, but this has happened to me at home as well (I am 95% sure). For the last week or so, if, within any Metafilter window, I click on the upper right corner links to go to the other sections of the site, the browser status bar transfers the data and the URL changes, but the actual page does not. It will not change to the target of the clicked link until I hit refresh. In addition, if I don't hit refresh and click on a displayed MeFi link without reloading the page, it takes me to some random page from long ago, or alternatively, a MeFi page that says I've clicked a bad link (I can't reproduce this right now) - this all seems to depend on the portion of the site I am starting from. If I click on an external link, that works fine. I have not experienced these sorts of problems on any other site. What the hell is going on? It seems like it has to do with how my local servers are caching the pages, but I sure as hell don't understand why that would prevent my browser from loading the links I click.

Bug in search engine with two-character usernames

Mefi search doesn't seem to handle very short (specifically, two character) usernames correctly. Apologies if this is known issue, I couldn't find it when I searched. REPRO In the metafilter search box, type "ry". You'll get know matches. EXPECTED You should get a result on the users tab for ry. ACTUAL You get "Sorry, no matches for ry across MetaFilter."

AskMe category pages don't list any questions.

AskMe category pages aren't listing any questions for me. Between the header and footer, this is all I get:

It seems the "questions in the * category" phrase is missing the name of the category where I've put a *. Firefox and IE, logged in and logged out.

Login redirects properly on the first try, but not subsequent tries.

The login page redirects properly on the first username/password try, but not on subsequent tries. If I click Login from any particular MeFi page and enter my password correctly I'm taken back to the page I was on when I clicked Login. If I enter my password incorrectly, then enter it correctly the second time, I am redirected to www.metafilter.com instead of the page I started on.

How will we validate each other's existences without favorites?

Minor display error with IE 6 & 7

The stripy background at the top of the page is broken with IE. But what isn't, amirite? I just noticed that the striped background for the Logo is off by a little bit, compared to the rest of the striped background across the top of the page. It looks like it may be off by the same thickness as the "Welcome to the new server!" banner? Image here. It happens on all sub-sites with IE 6 & 7 (different machines for different IE versions). Firefox 3 looked fine.
