MeTa10th: Where are the Californians? As writing this, there is one proposed meet-up, and that's Sacramento. Sorry, Sac-Town, but that's a bit far for this central/south-coaster. The Ventura/SB/IV/SLO meetup was a blast, so I'd like to demand we return to the Maverick in force, but we might get run outta town. Should we lay waste to LA? Flatten SF? Or claim SB as our own? Or do we reunite with Chad? Fun game: fill those four asterisks with whatever you like

Are there enough MeFites in coastal Central/Southern California for a Meetup? From prowling the archives, there were a few MeFites in the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties for a Meetup or two, but the last one may have been 5 to 6 years ago. Has this area been abandoned for more lively places? Do folks from this area head north or south to LA or SF for Meetups? I'd go to one in either location, but being a working stiff means I'm stuck with Saturday or earlier Sunday times.

MeFites + Snow = AWESOME. That's why we should have a meetup in the Lake Tahoe area on Sunday, February 1st, at a snowpark. Proposed location: In or around Lake Tahoe, California. Proposed date: Sunday, February 1st. Proposed time: Morning. Proposed AWESOMENESS: Let's meet up at one of the snow parks around Lake Tahoe on the morning of Sunday, February 1st, for sledding, snow tubing, snowman-building, stovetop hot chocolate, and anything else we can think of. Then we can, around noon, retire to Tahoe proper for lunch, and go our separate ways. I'm posting this this far in advance in case any out-of-town MeFites want to drop in for some Friday or Saturday boarding, skiing or snowshoeing at one of Tahoe's resorts. I'm looking at you, mathowie. If you're interested, speak up, so I can gauge how much potential there is.

San Francisco Sunday Brunch? Meh. Washington DC Longest Table in the House Sunday Brunch with Extra Bacon! I am thinking the second Sunday in August for this fry-up. Any suggestions for a place and time? I'd thought of Busboys and Poets but their brunch is so boring now. The Florida Avenue Grill is definitely out of the question. But there are some excellent places around H Street now...

Interviewing in Sunnyvale Thursday, nothing to do for 24 hours after, and I'd love to meet the locals... I'll be in lovely Sunnyvale, California for an interview at Yahoo! this week. The interview is Thursday. My flight is late on Friday. I'd love to have a beer and talk with some of the local MeFitizens. I know there's all manner of meetups proposed for about now, but this is more of just a casual meet 'n greet at a local purveyor of fine libations (perhaps even microbrews! mmmmmm). Any takers? Unfortunately, I don't have easy access to a vehicle, but most downtown Sunnyvale locations should be within reach of my hotel.

Birding on the Bay

Bay Area birders and photographers, let's meet at Crissy Field in San Francisco on January 26th for an afternoon of birdwatching and nature photography. Many migratory shorebirds come to the San Francisco Bay for the winter, making this a good time for birding and photography. There are other things to see too: sailboats, kites, dogs romping in the surf, and maybe the guy who piles up rocks in a most amazing balancing act. Let's meet at 1 pm at the Crissy Field Center at 603 Mason Street, facing the field across from the tidal marsh. We'll meander towards the Warming Hut (which recently reopened) and thaw out there at 4-ish. Going out to dinner afterwards would be fun, if anybody wants to suggest a venue. Non-experts are welcome! Bring binoculars as well as camera gear, and field guides are helpful too. Note: RAIN CANCELS THIS MEETUP. If it rains we'll* try to reschedule another weekend pronto. *Your hostesses: rtha, gingerbeer, and Quietgal.
