MeFiChi: It's that time yet again, where we bundle up our holiday cheer, throw it into the Chicago river, and head to the darkness of Lower Michigan Avenue.... Usual place/time? Which would be, I do believe, Wednesday, December 3, 6PM, at The Billy Goat on Lower Michigan Avenue. Unless you have a better idea. And, hey, for the holidays, we could go to Daley Plaza and stare at the lights, or even better, take over the beer tent -- but it closes at 8PM.

The Billy Goat, under Michigan Avenue, 6PM, October 7th, 2009 (which is the normal Wednesday, in the normal Place, with the normal beer.) Where we go from here is unknown, and according to quantum mechanics, unknowable.

Some time ago, I did a post about parodies of "The Last Supper". Little did I know at the time that the Greatest Spoof Ever would feature MetaFilter's Own Jesus H. Shatner (although in retrospect, it seems obvious). Ladies and Gentlemen, a masterpiece by leonardo pjern, "The Last Round" Credits where credit is due: Photographed at the Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago on October 3rd, 2009. Original Idea by East Manitoba Regional Junior Kabaddi Champion '94. Disciple Wrangling by thirteenkiller. Extra Glory provided by Photoshop. And the title above is a quote from The Whelk in an unnamed irc (is there anything The Whelk cannot do?). At the time this picture was taken, I was 1,834 miles away, but pjern was too shy and afraid of self-linking accusations to do this himself. On the other hand, wendell is an attention whore who's currently working on photoshopping himself into the Judas position. No religious traditions were harmed in the making of this picture; if you want to see blasphemy, check some of these out.

Cortex, Chicago, and Cheezborgers, October 2nd and 3rd

As promised: the First Annual Chicago Cortex Convergence, October 2nd and 3rd. Mark it on your calendars, kids. Cortex is crashing at our place for the weekend, so Friday October 2nd will be a mini-crawl up in Andersonville hitting (in part) Hopleaf, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, and Cafe Bong. The afternoon of Saturday October 3rd will take us downtown to Millennium Park, the Goat, and possibly Rossi's. Suggestions for other places to hit in and around those areas are welcome.

I will have plans in Chicago with my wife and our friends, but I am left completely to my own devices in Dallas - so some ideas on where to go (and maybe someone to go somewhere with?) would be fantastic.

Oi, Chicago! Meetup Time, and I'm throwing a wrench into the Chicago Cabal's great plans. (TINCC) I keep wanting to make meetups, but I either have to be up at 4AM the next morning for a flight, or I'm on the upper peninsula of the upper peninsula of Michigan. And this must stop. My steak and egg quotient is sadly low. I must have beer in thick mugs. Which means we need to meet up on something OTHER than Wednesday, and Thursday is Right Out. Thus: Meetup. Same Place. Different Time. The Billy Goat, on TUESDAY, September 8th. 6PM. TUESDAY. That's like Wednesday, but younger. If you really can't cope with that, just keep drinking, it'll be Wednesday soon enough.

It's not like we'd tell you if there WAS a Chicago Cabal.

Chicago-Meetup-Filter: Yes, it's that time of month again. Like the flow of the tides, or the cycle of the moon, it's time once again for the monthly Chicago-MeFi meetup. Unless the date is going to cramp our style, I suggest our regular first Wednesday of the month. That's next week - Wednesday, July 1st. As always, the meetup will be at the Billy Goat, underneath Michigan Ave. (For the uninitiated, this is a few miles south of the Moody Bible Institute.) Be there or we will for sure rag on you. Also, don't be late. The start time is spotty, but usually around 6pm-ish. This particular meetup may be important-ish as we possibly will discuss the 10th anniversary block party.

CHICAGO Northwest Suburbs Meetup! Calling mefites from Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Palatine, etc etc! (and anyone who feels like driving) It's nearly impossible for me to get downtown in a timely manner for the regular Chicago meetups. I am pretty open as far as time/date/location, as long as it's in the evening. I haven't been in the area for too long and don't frequent bars, so please suggest some. Coffeehouses are great too!

shakespherian posted this (imo) great fpp about myopenbar.com, suggesting coordination with MeFi meetups. I don't have a plug-in solution, but wondering when you full-time Chicagoans are thinking about a next meetup, so an ex-pat (ex-paddy?) might do some planning? fwiw, I'll be arriving in Chicago 7/30 for an overnight, then back there on 8/4, 8/5...but at this point, I'm just asking. I realize that the BGT is somewhat sacred as the gathering point, but as the party moves maybe we Chicagoans can show myopenbar why advertising open bars in Chicago runs counter to for-profit endeavors.
