AskMeFi amendments

Feature Request: AskMeFi "amendments," long after a thread has been closed. Maybe 3% of the questions I've answered, life goes on, I learn, and I wish I could add something to the boneheaded advice that was supplied by an earlier me, so future searchers see it. Details:
*You could only "amend" your own comments. The amendment would appear right under your original comment, indented, with the later date obvious.
*You could only amend after the thread has been closed.
*Maybe the original asker would get an email update.

Additional reasons:
Again, I learn new, relevant things, and I wish I could go back in time to update my answer, not just for the OP but for any future searchers. This is mostly for health related stuff re my answers, but I can imagine all sorts of situations where personally invested people might want to make a little update. I think it might add a lot of value to the site.

Everyone likes ponies!

Pony request: "Load New Comments" for Mefi threads, at least on mobile. Pretty please? Like many Mefites, I'm stuck with dialup and no 3G- making megathreads like the recent Egypt one a major drag to stay up to date (Opera Mini doesn't even seem to support pages that long). This would be an awesome feature we've been missing for a while.

"Load new comments" for MeFi mobile?

"Load new comments" for MeFi mobile? Especially for tragic and topical threads. Today's thread about the Giffords shooting reminded me how I sometimes rely on MeFi for news updates, especially when stuck on the bus, waiting for laundry to be done, etc -- moments when mobile access is key.

Since those threads tend to build up 200-300 comments quickly, would it make more sense to load new comments with Ajax rather than reloading the entire page? More like the "Load More" button Twitter used to use at the bottom of update streams?

(Keep in mind, I have no idea what is possible on a technical level. Just a feature idea I thought would be helpful. Thanks...)

Inaccurate realtime post/comment count

How is my "last visit" determined? I stay logged into Metafilter all day and frequently reload the various colored sections to check for updates. At the top of each front page is a count telling me "X links and X comments have been posted since your last visit." But the number is always wrong. Likewise, the "(X new)" after the comments link for every post is also out of date. If this old MeTa is (still?) accurate and applies to both counts, that explains why the numbers are wrong... but can something be changed to make them, you know, useful?

Categorized as a bug because that seems to be what this is, even if I am also asking for a pony to fix the bug.
