Some time ago, I did a post about parodies of "The Last Supper". Little did I know at the time that the Greatest Spoof Ever would feature MetaFilter's Own Jesus H. Shatner (although in retrospect, it seems obvious). Ladies and Gentlemen, a masterpiece by leonardo pjern, "The Last Round" Credits where credit is due: Photographed at the Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago on October 3rd, 2009. Original Idea by East Manitoba Regional Junior Kabaddi Champion '94. Disciple Wrangling by thirteenkiller. Extra Glory provided by Photoshop. And the title above is a quote from The Whelk in an unnamed irc (is there anything The Whelk cannot do?). At the time this picture was taken, I was 1,834 miles away, but pjern was too shy and afraid of self-linking accusations to do this himself. On the other hand, wendell is an attention whore who's currently working on photoshopping himself into the Judas position. No religious traditions were harmed in the making of this picture; if you want to see blasphemy, check some of these out.

As promised: the First Annual Chicago Cortex Convergence, October 2nd and 3rd. Mark it on your calendars, kids. Cortex is crashing at our place for the weekend, so Friday October 2nd will be a mini-crawl up in Andersonville hitting (in part) Hopleaf, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, and Cafe Bong. The afternoon of Saturday October 3rd will take us downtown to Millennium Park, the Goat, and possibly Rossi's. Suggestions for other places to hit in and around those areas are welcome.

Cortex & brother, Baltimore, Sept 19? So, as has been pointed out, there is a gap in the sidebar. Unfortunately I may or may not be on a plane elsewhere that day, but I figured I might as well make the post so that hopefully something can happen. (I will attend if I'm not on a plane.) Some previous places that I think meetups have happened: brewer's art, club charles, windup space, dizzy issie's. A few other possibilities that come to mind: rocket to venus, friends (in fells point), one world cafe, ...?

Let's keep it plain: it's a meet-up in Maine.

Who's in for an Original Portland™ meet-up with Cortex on September 12th? Cortex and possibly a few others from "away" will be in Portland, Maine, on September 12th. He's expressed a likin' for lobstah rolls and beer but is game for anything. One option would be Sebago Brewing, or possibly Gritty McDuff's. Someone suggested Local 188 in the his tour announcement thread (not tried it yet but their menu looks great). Those who say, "ayup," please RSVP and toss out your venue suggestions. Late afternoon or early evening.

Vermont playdate with cortex! Cortex is coming to Vermont sometime on the 13th and leaving sometime on the 15th making Monday September the 14th the perfect day for some sort of meetup. I know the Burlington crowd mentioned maybe coming to this one. I was thinking perhaps we could think about meeting them halfway and meet somewhere in the Barre/Montpelier area? If no BTV peeps are around I'd suggest someplace near me and the terrapin/turtlegirl household (Randolph/Bethel/Tunbridge). Thoughts?

Bay Area mefites - let's get the planning started for cortex's 9/29 visit! I figured I'd start this off. Although we're pretending that this whole cortexian world tour thing ISN'T a competition among cities to prove who can throw the best meetups, we should still manage to show cortex some love. He's here Tuesday September 29th. The weather should be good - what about starting at Zeitgeist? Outside, good beer, the tamale lady, etc. We could potentially adjourn to Pauline's or another nearby restaurant if some folks are less enthused about meeting in a bar. I imagine there might be some sort of wandering about the city earlier in the day for those of us with fewer work-type restrictions. Maybe the Academy of Sciences? Also bacon donuts. I did try to convince cortex that he should be here for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, to no avail. I even mentioned the banjos. Any other mefites interested in a subsequent HSB gathering?

Since other cities are already posting meetups, I figured I'd better jump on the bandwagon. Cortex-tastic New Orleans meetup in September! It feels like our Columns extravaganza just happened, but I'm ready to do it again. On a *much* smaller scale of course. But I wouldn't be opposed to a Journey sing-along again. I think we're looking at Wednesday, September 16th. Who's in? And where should we go? And how do we convince mathowie to join us?

Triangle NC-Cortex-Meetup GO! So Cortex will be gracing us w/ his amazing presence on Tuesday 9/22. Where should we take him?? Do we want to do a Raleigh meetup since it's been a while? Or are the Durham/CH peeps more vocal? What is the best place for a meetup of this magnitude? Vote here, vote now. At the moment I'm only partially employed and have Mondays and Tuesdays off, so I will be available for Cortex-ferrying, but that could change at any time, so please also let us know if you're around on Mondays/Tuesdays to pick Cortex up and drive him awesome places. I believe he is crashing w/ Stewriffic so I guess Local Yogurt and some other Durham locales are covered already. :)
