Should we redirect "but my case is special" COVID-19 questions on Ask?

The answer is always going to be "no." No, you can't visit your daughter for her birthday safely just because the number of cases in her town is declining. No, you shouldn't take a road trip so long as you're only going to stop "a few places" where you might be in close quarters with other people. No, it's not safe to have friends over if you have an immunocompromised roommate, even if the windows are open. No. No. The answer is "no." Can we put some text on the AskMe form that gently points people with these questions to "no?" Maybe a stand-alone page that says something to the effect of "AskMe's answer is no. If you want a second opinion, please call your doctor."

As eluded to by the most recent podcast, it has indeed been a rough week. In cities all over the US and the world, the hits just keep coming, and not just from COVID-19. I know personally that it is taking a toll on me and I didn't see another thread that wasn't location-specific, so I am opening this up to anyone and everyone that needs someplace to vent and share their joys and struggles as the world convulses under the weight of fascism and pestilence and the ongoing fight to eliminate both. Be kind to each other. We are all hurting.

I thought it would be nice to have someplace central to store and chat about that sort of thing. So, are you doing something amazing or hilarious or at least vaguely interesting with your home-bound time? Building something new, cooking or baking something awesome (or at least awesomely terrible?) Reading or watching something that makes you happy? If you don't use memail, please email me at meficardclub@gmail.com The deadline is NEXT FRIDAY, April 3. I will send out the assignments on Saturday, April 4. I'm going to aim to put people in groups of 6-8, depending on the number of sign-ups. I posted a comment to this effect in the last post, and already have ~15 people signed up, so that's exciting!

I have expertise relevant to contagion/spread. I feel like there's one aspect of this that is not well-understood by the general public and if understood could persuade people to be more effective in their social distancing. I would like to make some sort of video/animation meme to put out there. Can you help? I have no animation software or knowledge and obviously this is something where the faster it gets out there the better so I don't have time to learn. I have no money to pay.

People are answering AskMeFi questions about COVID-19 with incorrect advice, endangering at-risk populations. Preventing the use of MetaFilter to distribute dangerous misinformation is a matter of life and death. In one recent thread, the spouse of a highly medically at-risk person was given incorrect advice about hand sanitization, and advised on ways to take more lax social distancing measures than the CDC recommendations. This is not a game. This is an emergency, and we all need to treat it like one. The mods need to familiarize themselves with the relevant guidelines, and to give highest priority above all moderation tasks to preventing the use of MetaFilter as a platform for spreading disinformation during a pandemic.
