Lost in the archives...

On the monthly archives pages it is much easier to find out the time of day a post was made than the date a post was made. I think time of day and date should be equally accessible by listing both on the "posted by" line. [more inside]

determining doomed and deleted discussion dates

My temporal ocd wonders why deleted posts show up as being from the previous day, significantly confusing my time/date continuum meter. Examples: this and this

Sidebar date format is US only

The date format of the sidebar is a bit confusing to non-US readers 4.06.2009 reads as the 4th June to me. Could it be formatted in a less ambiguous way: 4 Jun 2009 or 2009.06.04

Single Day AskMeFi Archive Browse

Is there any way to browse the Ask archives a day at a time? Browsing by date (e.g. http://ask.metafilter.com/archived.mefi/10/01/2006/ ) currently brings up an entire month at a time, which is rather unwieldy. [more inside]

They left when?

We have a "joined" date in user profiles. Can we have a "left" date for the pushers of the big red button?

Proposed change to URL structure

It would be neat if the UTC date and time of postings could be incorporated into their URLs. For example, http://metatalk.metafilter.com/14082/Metafilter-Shoutout could appear as http://metatalk.metafilter.com/20070525-2249/Metafilter-Shoutout There would likely need to be an additional digit after the datecode to disambiguate between threads posted nearly simultaneously. The benefit would be to let people see how old threads are when mousing over links to them.

Add Years to Posting Info

Pony: Year included in the posted by line. With the year a posting was made appearing only once at the top of the page browsing the archives can be confusing. [MI]

For example how about changing the posted by line to:
posted by Mitheral at 7:38 PM MST on 2006/06/04 [+fave] [!]
or:
posted by Mitheral at 2006/06/04 7:38 PM MST [+fave] [!]

Neither of those is longer than the worst case of :

xmas xmas xmas

I love Christmas as much as the next guy, but AskMe appears to be displaying December 25th three times at the moment, although no questions seem to be duplicated.

9401 not behaving in reverse chron order

This is probably not worth much investigation, but I'm curious to know if it's happening to anyone else. When sorting by "my comments", the commented threads are in reverse chronological order, except that one thread (http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/9401) from July 2001 has for some reason sandwiched itself in between December 2001 threads and threads from 2002.

Dates on old posts

There doesn't seem to be any way to tell exactly when an old thread was posted. The original FPP has a 'time posted' tag, and the comments all have 'day' tags, but there's no year listed anywhere. (more inside)

Use the MeFi sidebar to draw attention to recent MeTa threads?

I posted this in another thread, but since you can't see new posts on MetaTalk, I decided to post it here. Would it be a good idea to list recent MetaTalk threads in a section of the right sidebar?

Also: would dates be better than days for right sidebar posts (7/27/01 instead of Friday)? Kind of like filepile. It's hard to tell how stale the news is with just days...

Pony: dates and times in post citations

I might just be, you know, a little slow, but more than once in recent days I have been cruising the MeFi front page and gotten lost, and had to scroll up (and up and up) to find the date header... perhaps it will soon be time to consider putting dates along with the times in the "posted by" footer on the front page.
