Are Sarah Palin posts persona non grata?

Is Metafilter just not capable of discussing Sarah Palin, or was it my fault? I found what I thought was a funny (if also cringeworthy) YouTube video about Sarah Palin. So I posted it to the blue. I was unexpectedly called away for a few hours and when I returned, my post was deleted. From the tone of the deletion message, I can clearly see that I've pissed cortex off.

FWIW, I feel bad that I made the mods' job harder. I'm OK with my post getting deleted. I had hoped things would go better. The comments certainly did turn south very quickly and I am well aware that I'm not a special snowflake.

What I would like to know from my fellow mefites is if the comments turned ugly because of the way that I presented it, or if its just a hot-button issue that we have a hard time being civil about.

Is Sarah Palin the new circumcision, or do we just need better posts to frame the discussion?

What did I do wrong?

Why is Glenn NOT being killed in a horrible accident NOT best of the web? Last night, I dared to mount a FPP which consisted of a single link to an Onion News Network story: Victim in Fatal Car Accident Tragically not Glenn Beck. Upon waking this morning, I noticed it had been deleted. After patiently (and vainly) waiting all morning for it to pop up in Deleted Threads, so I could read the reason for the deletion, I now feel compelled to nudge the issue a bit.

Was it deemed:

1. just not funny?
2. offensive?
3. too thin?
4. in contravention of some unknown (to me at least) rule about single-linking to The Onion?
5. other?

Please educate me. I just watched the clip again and, no it wasn't just the beer I drank last night, it's a darned funny piece of satire that works on more levels than one.

where's the gift list?

There was a list in the last few weeks of a bunch of weird places to get christmas gifts. One was the american science supply and the author commented that a similar list was put up last year. Searching metafilter and ask metafilter has proven fruitless. Can someone get me back to the post? thanks.

Just wondering what happened to my Metafilter post (why it got deleted). Did I do something wrong? I checked my email and there was no reason given over there too. Sorry if I'm being a bother Jess; just wanted to know if there was something I could've done better to make the post stay up (liked the andaman site that I'd linked it to).

What are the criteria for inappropriate posts?

I was just reading a post that linked to a photo on Yahoo News about a swastika symbol made from trees planted in 1930s-era Berlin, which were rediscovered in the 1992. I clicked to see the comments, and the post had been deleted. I refreshed the front page, and it was gone.

What are the criteria for inappropriate posts on Metafilter? If Yahoo News was comfortable showing it, why not us? Was it because the link text didn't mention objectionable material? (It was something like "Looks like Johnny Appleseed had some competition.")
