Red Box Sighting

Perhaps this was mentioned back when the "X new comments" thing was rolled out - but I didn't know that if you happen to be reading a thread at the moment it is deleted by a mod what you get instead of that box is a very cool red box that just says "This Post was Deleted". I highly recommend looking for one of these if you get the chance; it's like the MetaFilter equivalent of seeing the elusive green flash at sunset.

Is there any easy way to check for deleted threads?

I really enjoy watching bright (and not so bright) people make stupid, dumb mistakes. Is there any easy way to check for deleted threads?

What got nuked?

Invoking the Lazyfilter again...How cool would it be to set up the AntiMetafilter somewhere? A blog that consists solely of the posts that got deleted from the big blue, complete with mathowie's reason for nuking.

Or am I the only one who idly runs my mouse over the links on the front page, seeking out the missing post numbers so I can see who got shot down for what?

If I am, I'm OK with that, just a little weirded out by myself.

Preventing reposts of deleted stories

This dangling baby . . . it vibrates? Every time Matt kills a "Jacko's dangling baby" post, another pops up to replace it. We've talked about this before, but I think the (general) question needs to be raised: What, if anything, can be done to prevent reposting deleted stories? It's been pointed out that posters may not know that they're posting something that has been deleted before because, um, it's been deleted before! (And with wacky news like this, there can be any number of sources for the same story, sorry.) Short of deleting the story every time it pops up, is there a better solution?

Deleted double post on fatness

Just curious: what happened to the thread that apparently linked to doctored photos to make celebrities look overweight? I have to admit I found the thread utterly stupid and offensive, but it's not like it was a double-post. (Heh.) And surely other posts have been kept up that have no redeeming value.

Kill Post

How about a "kill post" function, with a tipping point. A little button next to front-page posts, that if 10, 15, 25, whatever people click within the first 10 minutes (or 5 responses) of a post, it gets deleted from the front page.

It's democratic, it's brutally efficient, and it will cut down on front page non-posts. I think people here are mature enough not to delete posts just because they're political.. and if not, the tipping point can just be scaled up a bit.
