What's up with all the double and triple posts in the comments in the past couple of weeks? Has something changed with the submission code which is causing this? My browser clears the submission box when I post something, so I can't imagine how this is happening by accident without it being a problem in the posting code.

pre-empting Obamaveepfilter

Obama is expected to announce his VP choice tomorrow via text message to the masses. Dozens, or perhaps hundreds, even thousands, of mefites will be notified of the selection all at the very same instant. Several of them may want to make the first crappy post on the subject. Shall we let this happen? Up until now, the only guideline regarding crappy news/election/obit-filter is basically "take your time so if you post newsfilter, it's worthwhile". More so than with almost any news in the past, there exists the possibility for a few people all to be racing to be the first to post to metafilter all at once. Newsfilter still isn't banned, so it seems undesirable to just forbid posts on Obama's selection. Time limits before posting have been discussed in the past, and seem like a good solution at least in this case. However, for most news stories it's hard to pin down exactly when a story first breaks. Or perhaps we could come up with a clever one time solution just for this case, and continue with the status quo.

I could swear I saw an FPP arguing that Dubaya isn’t really there at all in the conventional sense of being there. Then I left and came back, and it wasn’t there anymore.

So is this an in joke with the moderators or what?

Simple ideas to help stop double posts.

Ok, So I committed a MeFi sin the other day and made a double post. I felt a bit embarrassed but it got me thinking about a couple ways to prevent some of the double posting that goes on around here. If any of these ideas are taken up maybe something good will come out of a double post for once.
