fat hate is ugly

The overwhelming majority of fat people have made the choice to not do what is necessary to change a situation which is hazardous to their health, wasteful of resources, and visually repellent. [more inside]

I thought we were progressive

Normally I don't say anything, but... the discussion about fat folks forced to fly on SouthWest and whether we need to buy another ticket on ask strikes me as fat bashing, which is not really what the poster asked for. [more inside]

healthy dialogue

Often there are questions posted to Ask Metafilter that have a similar format. The poster will have a general health problem, and will also be fat. In 95% of the cases, losing weight is the first step to solving the problem. Yet, this answer is often immedietly removed. Is it really so terrible to point out the elephant in the room? And, more pointedly, are we doing others a diservice by not being frank?

Enough with the fat jokes.

Enought with the fat haters already. The post was cute, was it really neccessary to mock the photographer's appearance?

Fat Lesbian

Metafilter now "owns" the term "Fat Lesbian", since Google and Yahoo searches for "Fat Lesbian" now pull up my deleted post: Ich Bin Ein Fat Lesbian Oh, if only the rest of life were this simple.

Challenging others' answers in an obesity thread

Was it really necessary to repeatedly challenge booksandlibretti's answer to this question? How about just letting Bookhouse evaluate her response for himself?

discussion not as expected; how to improve?

I'm kind of dissapointed with the way things turned out in a post I made to Metafilter yesterday. I was hoping to discuss how many of the leaders of the fat acceptance movement are feeders and the consequences this might have in terms of it's future progress. Oh and I also wanted to discuss the new slate piece I linked to. But of 140+ comments, very few seem to even reference the links I made. Most just gave their opinion on fat people . I read all of the comments, and the general consensus seems to be that topics regarding obesity cannot be discussed sensibly at Metafilter. What should I do in the future to make a better FPP and what other topics should I wholly avoid?

Complaining that all pants are made for fat people is offensive

Could we please blame fat people for everything that doesn't go our way more often? It's awesome and not at all bitchy.

Fark fat-bashing fusion

It's farkish and fatty-bashing in one convenient post!

Seriously, what do we hope to accomplish with this?

Fat jokes aren't necessary.

Was this really necessary? [more inside]

yuckkkkkkkkkkkkk

23324 - The Grand Cabaret : apparently deleted because "It's just you. Really." Are we saying that it was deleted because everyone disagreed with the poster (they didn't) or because it was likely to offend people (which many other threads risk).

Personally, my brain can't cope when The Sun can run a sensible article about bigger women while MetaFilter responds with "yuckkkkkkkkkkkkk".

Discussion of airlines charging fat people more is the worst thread ever.

Hatred, intolerance, name calling, scatology. This is easily one of the worst Metafilter threads I've ever seen.
