Do Mefites play Metal Gear Online? If so, we could play in the weekend Survival tournaments. I'm not terribly good, but I've gotten so that I don't weigh down teams I join in the auto-matching Big Boss channel. yes I checked the wiki; there's nothing there and I figured this is a better way to get people's attention.

Remember that Nomic game we started? It's finished! Gerryblog won the game, on behalf of his colleagues in the Super Cool Victory Fellowship. His comrades-in-arms 1 and Aaron A Aaronson provided the assist through a cunning transfer of points. And I got a SHINING STAR OF GOLD!!!1 Jay (not sure which Mefite he is) did an excellent job setting up a drupal / blogshares thingy that has proven itself a very functional environment for the game. Of the 20-odd starting players, we were left with 10 or so by game's end. It sounds like there will be a new game going soon, so drop by if you are interested.

Team Fortress 2 Metafilter Server So you're on the least aggravating public server, trying to avoid the porn sprays, the sailor talk (and I'm not talking nautical), and ear-cleaving yells that someone has indeed, owned you; not only because you are newer to the game than he, but because your sexual orientation is something he fears and denigrates. You might think to yourself. Well, a few things. 1) I wonder if there is a nice cozy server that's all passworded up the wazoo with 128 bit encryption to keep me safe from the unwashed masses? 2) Wouldn't it be nice to make a snide comment on the server about Edgar Rice Burroughs only to be rebuked in a style best described as Irate Lovecraftian. 3) Where have all the friendly people gone? Do they no longer play video games? Are they holed up play Settlers of Catan or Risk or some other highly geeky yet ultimately socially unacceptable game? They might even be fans of Diplomacy. Or, Ganesha forbid, Go. 4) Give me a place where I can call home. Where people do silly things for silly reasons, and every so often, they actually have serious games where the TEAM in Team Fortress actually means something. 5) Damn games to heck, I just want to be able to rub cyber shoulders with Stavros the Wonderchicken! That DaShiv guy! Or that fellow who made that short lived but ever amusing HL2 comic, "Concerned". GIVE ME E-CELEBRITY OR GIVE ME DEATH! Well, we have the place for you. herr.doktor and Stavros the Chicken and some others I'm sure I've missed has amassed their internets, weaving together the series of tubes to create a veritable basket of gaming goodness! A metafilter member only TF2 server! Password protected! With like, set game nights! Tournaments! PRIZES! And, most holiest of holies, a FORUM TO BLATHER INCESSANTLY ABOUT MEDIC CHANGES! Team Fortress 2 Match Today 2:00 PM EST! I know it's been Valve week here, but I don't want the weekly match we've been having to lose Steam (rimshot). We had about 8 folks show up last week, which wasn't bad, but not quite enough to make the games great. So I'd like to propose two things: 1) We make the Saturday 2:00 PM EST time a standing event 2) We get an email list going for people to coordinate other game times, etc. If you're interested in being on the email list (details of which are still being sorted out), send your email address to cortex and let him know you want to stay in the loop. Also, I'm still planning to get all this info on the wiki at some point. MeFi's own TF2/gaming server? Is there enough interest in having our own server? Costs aren't extreme, and it might be fun to blow each other up and maybe have a small tournament with awesome prizes. At the very least, some of us could just arrange times to play without pubber-related aggravation. What say you? I'll spring for the server. Looks like the various services out there rent out their equipment, so there'd be no need to pay for a box if I'm not mistaken.
