Database changes break my heart

MeFi Navigator and other Metafilter scripts are (I think) broken. But, merry christmas! Is it just me or MeFi navigator and other Greasemonkey Metafilter scripts are broken?
I think there was a database change of sorts. I use, apart from the aforementioned Navigator, "Metafilter MultiFavorited Multiwidth" and "Metafilter Thread Highlights" and none of them work.
So I pitifully pray for a call of arms to those brave script kiddies: when the festivities are over, take a look at the scripts - they need your help.

Five years in the making and finally complete!

Thank you backtaggers! Thanks to a nudge from mr_crash_davis mark II: Jazz Odyssey and a lot of metadata specialists and friends we finished backtagging all 12,496 MetaTalk posts last night at 12:15 EST (with a few stragglers afterwards). MeFi and AskMe have been done already. This means that every post on MetaFilter that can have tags, has them. Thanks everyone for a job well done.

A few more notes about tags, for people who may be curious.

- mutual contacts can add tags to each other's posts, feel free to add tags that you think might be useful (but please refrain from editorializing in tags if you can help it)
- until we get some sort of a power search going, tags are one of the best ways to pre-search for double posts on the blue
- more backtagging MeTa posts/discussion here
- If you want to know who our librarians are on MeFi [a group whose membership overlaps but does not ecompass the whole of the backtagging team] you can install this greasemonkey script. If you are a librarian and not marked as my contact, please let me know.

It was really gratifying to see this semi-stagnant project get the push that it needed from a dedicated team of volunteers. I really appreciate everyone's willingness to step-up and help out.

Greasemonkey script question.

I'm trying to find a specific MeFi greasemonkey script. It would 'bookmark' the last comment you read, so when you returned to the thread, a grey scrolling bar would appear on the left-hand side, pointing down, until you hit the last(ish) comment you read, when it would turn into a slightly different shape. What was this thing called? I cannot find it on userscripts.org.

New Greasemonkey hack for MeFi and other sites

This is a kinda cool concept applied to MeFi: background bars for posts and comments (based on favorites) I'm not much of a greasemonkey user (I find it makes firefox crashy), but I've tried quite a few MeFi favorites highlighter type hacks, but this one does it in a less obtrusive way -- the longer the background bar on a poster's name, the more favorites it has garnered.

It's an easy way to spot the popular/good stuff without the massive highlights some other scripts do.

DrossFilter - brute force thread cleanser

As a bit of a brain saver I've made a GreaseMonkey script that hides every comment in a discussion on mefi that has less than 5 favourites. It was the anencephalic baby thread that drove me to it.

I was thinking about writing a snark filter, but, you know, natural language parsing and all that, so I decided to make it simple and dumb. And it works. Only quality snark makes it through.

And if you ever find yourself thinking "I can't believe I just spent thirty minutes reading 180 comments about W, which was mainly X, Y and Z bitching", you might also find it handy.

Naturally, if you wish to fully participate in a thread you will have to turn the script off.

Here is the script. It is based on someone else's script that highlighted favourited comments.

Future developments I will never get around to implementing:

Scale the cut-off point to the length of the thread

Add a show all comments button

On MeFi, everyone knows you're dog.

Greasemonkey: here's a script that displays profile pics next to posts.

Cortex warned me some people will hate it and want to roast me alive. To those people, let me suggest a side dish of Potatoes au Gratin and a glass of Merlot. I've had this installed for a week. It's subtly but profoundly changed my MeFi experience. I'm not sure if it's made it better or worse. I'm not sure if I'll keep it installed or not.

I noticed that almost everyone on MeTa has a pic, only about 40% of those on MeFi have them and most people who post to AskMe don't. I'll leave the interpretation of those stats to brighter minds.

I'm just learning Greasemonkey coding for the first time, so there may be some rough edges to my script.

Enjoy. Or not.

Is the Mondo Meta Options Greasemonkey script making Recent Activity a slow load for anyone else? What else can be used to killfile? I recently installed the script posted here, solely for the purpose of killfiling. It works very well, but killfiling is the only option I would use from this script, and it seems to be causing Recent Activity to drag. I'd really like a script just for killfiling, but can't seem to find one. Anyone?

Non-foxy Mefite delight?

Greasemonkey for non-Firefox browsers? I'd like to take advantage of Greasemonkey to make Mefi browsing more pleasant. However, while Firefox works great on Windows, I don't like Firefox's rampant memory and stability problems on Linux and OS X and would prefer to continue using my current browser on a non-Windows environment. Are there reasonable alternatives available to Mefites?

Deleted questions are showing up in intermittent fashion, and that is shaking me to my core. Won't you help?

Dumb, probably-asked-before question about deleted questions. I've just installed the greasemonkey "deleted threads" plug-in, and it's a terrible lot of fun. But while it behaves perfectly on the blue, on the green it is hit or miss.

For instance, this deleted thread is still there and viewable, while this one gives the "nothing to see here, move along" message. Both are displayed in exactly the same way by the greasemonkey script.

Does it have something to do with how/why the questions are deleted? Am I not holding my mouth correctly while clicking?

Just curious, really - I'm still excited about life either way.

Best of MeFi / 'Comment Dividers' Error

Two things (and yes, I'm cheating). First, I'm wondering if there's any mechanism out there that allows us to look at a "best of" for Mefi and Ask Mefi. Popular favorites in the last 24 hours immediately leaps to mind, and would indeed be ideal, but I'm looking for an RSS feed, and Mathowie says that's a no-go in past MeTas. (Any chance we could change your mind, Matt?) I hear there used to be a third-party blog that did it, but I don't think that's around any longer. Perhaps the sidebar feed ... at least for Mefi? Still, the sidebar is like a "best of best of Mefi." Second, and on an entirely different subject, when the MeFi comment dividers Greasemonkey script is used, it throws off permalinks to comments ... if you click on a comment permalink somewhere else (i.e. a Recent Activity page or a Favorites page), you're at first dropped at the anchor for the comment on the page, but when the comment dividers are applied, it bounces away. Anyone have an idea how that effect might be avoided? I'm more of a idiot-splicer than a programmer, so I really have no idea how to change that script to avoid the effect. Thanks in advance for any advice or answers on both questions ...

Highlighting contacts? Would it be possible to highlight the name of anyone you have listed in your contacts? Nothing flashy, just something to draw attention to the poster's name if you are skimming a long thread.

Greasemonkey script that highlights "heavy links"

I run a Greasemonkey script that highlights "heavy links" - links such a Youtube or .mov that might take a while to download.

Should this script action be incorporated into the meta universe?

Proper etiquitte is to flag such heavy links but if you Firefox users install this script and say look at posts tagged with video, you will see many examples of posters who bother to tag their posts but don't flag their links. Then there are many who don’t tag or flag.

Even if you don't support such highlighting at the site (It will just make people lazy), how are my filters? What else do I need to include? [jeez, trying to get the below to display properly was very trying]

HeavyExtensions = ['swf', 'ram', 'rm', 'wmv', 'asx', 'mov', 'pdf', 'mp3', 'mpg', 'mpeg', 'wav'];
HeavyURLs = [
/youtube.com\/.*\?v=/,
/video.google.com\/videoplay/,
/video.google.com\/googleplayer.swf/,
/collegehumor.com\/movies\/.*\//,
]

GreaseMonkey script: Show Comments

GreaseMonkey script: Show Comments

Users often reference other user's comments (example). If you're as lazy as I am you don't like clicking back to see what the original comment was. This script displays the original comment inline. Screenshot inside.

Is there a way to jump from one comment to the next using my keyboard?

Is there a way to jump from one comment (anchor) to the next using my keyboard? I like a feature in Bloglines where you can simply press "j" to go to the next article in a feed ("k" goes to the previous article). It would be nice if we had a navigation system similar to this going from comment to comment for MeFi/AskMe/MeTa threads.
