making fun of disable folks

Some of the comments in this thread are completely offensive and... ...it's poised to ruin a really awesome thread about some really awesome people. I've flagged them but there are perhaps not too many people visiting the thread, and I'm thinking maybe they didn't get flagged enough. Because it would be really horrible if the two most popular hits about the "albino magic" are that blog post and a thread filled with jokes about murdering and eating disabled people.

this is me being very civil.

No more dead baby jokes.

In the abandoned baby thread someone made a joke about dead babies. Then someone complained about it. So the new rule is, dead baby jokes are a bad thing on MetaFilter. Because, if my understanding is correct on this, we do not talk about anything, or speak in particular ways about particular things, if any other member of the site finds that insensitive or if it hurts them.

We are moving towards a future in which no one need fear being insulted or hurtor reminded of an unpleasant personal memory by someone else's words, ever.

Is my understanding of this situation correct?

So a murderer walks into a bar...

The filesystem jokes in this Reiser trial thread struck me as being in particularly bad taste. I'm not actually sure why this bugs me more than the general MeFi snark, but the general internet tendency to make jokes about this murder trial while it's a current event has always left a bad taste in my mouth.

Am I being unneccessarily prudish? Where's the line? Does this cross it?

But it was funny!

What is the verdict on clever one-liners in AskMefi? This afternoon, I posted that something was eponysterical and when I came back to the thread, it was deleted. I've made the same comment before and not only was it not deleted, it was favorited.

So, is there a zero-tolerance policy on wit in Ask now? Because the question had already been answered and it wasn't exactly causing a pile on, so I don't see the harm.

Farts = not funny; Nuns = hilarious!

Help with Nun Humor: no? My comment -- pointing out that maybe we shouldn't make fun of women who devote their lives to the service of others and often face poverty in retirement (despite working for one of the richest organizations in the world) -- gets deleted almost immediately, and yet the thread itself lives?

OK. I shoulda taken it here first. So here we are. Why is it OK to make fun of nuns?

Why was my comment in this thread deleted? My comment was "How much do you make?" and I was serious.
