Its Boxing Day. Surely you'd rather meetup than shop? sueinnyc and I thought a Boxing Day meetup would be grand. How would four PM or so work for everyone? Late enough so folks could meetup post shopping yet early enough to dissuade the frugal amoung us from shopping at all, your choise. Anyone have a preference on location? If the East End suits we could try The Drunken Monkey , as its actually pretty pleasant on a Saturday afternoon. If this isn't suitable please post suggestions for location in the thread! This time around Mrs Mutant, feeling her small far below sea level country is underrepresented in London, will import two additional people of the Dutch persuasion, her vader Roel and her broer The Dog.

Anyone attending Secret Garden Party on December 12th? Mrs Mutant & I noticed that SGP was hosting their Christmas Voyage at The Troxy, right across the road from us. Well, while we've always wanted to see the inside of The Troxy the cage fights they usually organise for Saturday nights (seriously!!) isn't really our scene. Although the crowd surely livens the old neighbourhood up before and after (especially after). So we thought we'd wander over, scope the interior and find out what some 2,000 party types would get up to down here in The Ghetto of all places. Anyone else going on December 12th? We were thinking about wandering into the party sometime after midnight, if that matters. Not sure if we'd find each other inside (three levels, four rooms, lots going on) but it surely would be fun trying.

Fancy a late November London Meetup? Since Mrs Mutant & I couldn't make it to the last London Meetup and the holidays are rapidly approaching, we thought as penance we'd try to organise an end of November London meetup. Would anyone would like to get together in roughly a fortnight, say the weekend of the 28th? We'd tentatively suggest either Friday or Saturday. Friday would be a later start, say 7PM or so, while for Saturday we'd like to suggest maybe a 4PM start. We're good either way. As we'll have kin visiting from Amsterdam (Marielle's vader, Roel, who attended a meetup with us in Amsterdam) we'd have to bugger off after roughly three hours but that way, in the manner of all enzymes, we'd emerge unscathed from the conflagration and not only able but willing to organise a December meetup.

Isn't it about time we had another London meetup? I hesitate even to bring it up, since I have been particularly bad about attending them of late, but it seems that we haven't had a London meetup in a while. Anybody up for one? Picnic season is probably pretty much past us, but how about planning to meet somewhere that has a nice outdoors but also a pleasant indoors, in case of iffy or bad weather. Maybe on a Saturday afternoon? Say the 17th of October?

In this thread about Antony Gormley's One and Other art project in Trafalgar Square this summer, Mr Mustard said that he would post to Mefi from the plinth if picked. As I'm appearing on there tomorrow (Mon 21st) I feel honour-bound to do just that. Possible mini-meetup... I've been working with a guy called Phil Clark-Hill who has built a portable, battery powered sound system in a wheelie bin called The Bass Bin from recycled, reclaimed & reused parts. I'll be spending my hour DJing a few tunes to whoever is in the square at the time and keeping the idea of sustainability, recycling & reusing in people's minds. I'm planning on being the loudest plinther of the summer. My slot is Monday 21st September from 1-2pm UK time. It would be nice to see any local Mefites there but for everyone else I'll be attempting to post here during my slot and will try some shout outs. The Fourth Plinth is in the NW corner of the square in front of the National Gallery. London meetup next week? There's a catch... ...I don't really know when I'm going to be there. I mean, I have a work thing on Thursday but I don't know if I have to also be in Koblenz on Tuesday. I haven't even gotten plane tickets yet! The absolute minimum amount of time I'll be there, though, is Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning (ha!). I am planning to take some vacation days while I'm there, so it's just a matter of when they will be. So, just to poll everyone, what evening next week would be good? I think the best chance for me is Friday the 1st (and there's a chance I could be there all weekend). Any suggestions for a place to meet, too? I have no idea where I'm staying yet, either... (My work thing is with the CAA - by Gatwick, I think? I realize that's kind of out of the way, but I don't mind getting into the city center if I end up with a hotel out in the sticks.)

How about a London meet-up for an out-of-towner? I'll be visiting for a couple of weeks and may be lonely! Apologies if I've missed a recent London meet-up or am missing some sort of Brit-Mefi decorum. I'll be visiting from the 22nd of January until February 4th and would love to meet up with some of you guys. My boyfriend will be working during the days, leaving me to wander around alone most of the time, so any meet-ups or other offers for companionship would be welcome! We'll probably/hopefully be staying around the Bloomsbury/British Museum area, for whatever that's worth.

London meetup Nov 4th - US Election Night. Let's face it, we're all going to be checking the internet obsessively, so we might as well do it together! This idea was raised at yesterday's meetup and a few people seemed interested. Obviously it'd require staying over at someone's house and probably booking the 5th off as a holiday, but aside from that, it could be a lot of fun. Large quantities of pizza, beer, laptops, Mefi madness - what's not to want? Hey, there, London. I'll be visiting from May 16 through the 26th and would like to drink with you. I'll probably spend the first day or two getting my bearings and recovering from jetlag. I understand that the last three days of my vacation will be a bank holiday and people will probably have made other plans. That leaves us with Sunday, May 18th through Friday, May 23. I've made plans for the evening of Thursday, May 22. So . . . Sunday, May 18th through Wednesday, May 21 and the evening of May 23rd are the best times for me. Any drinking establishment is good, as long as it doesn't feature slugs or lettuce or Red Bull or Burberry caps. No need to reinvent the wheel; if a place has worked well in the past, that's fine by me. But if we have to break a tie, let's pick the place with the best beer selection. So . . . when and where would you like to meet up? Looking forward to meeting all of you in person!

London Calling/Calling London. Perchance a meetup? I'm visiting next week and would love to meet and greet and talk and talk and talk. A friend invited me to share her fancy-pants hotel, and I found an absurdly cheap ticket on Kuwait Air (so cheap, in fact, that I'm not completely confident that there will be a plane when I show up at the airport). It's reckless and perhaps ill-advised, but I'm beside myself with excitement. I'll be there from Weds. the 23rd through Saturday afternoon the 27th. Having never been, I'm afraid I have no clever ideas for meeting places. I do know that I'm staying near the Victoria and Albert Museum, but as someone who still adores the New York subway after five years, I think I'm going to like the Underground and will gladly travel on it. Also, thanks to my government's most definitely reckless and ill-advised foreign and economic policy, the once-mighty dollar is flacid and feeble, so somewhere that doesn't specialize in 20 Euro lychee martinis would probably be good. If you're there, and if you'd like to. Only if.
