With the new year around the corner, and recently noticing that Mefites have burned 490,834 calories, traveled 2,364 miles, and lost 378 pounds, I figure it's a good time to ask: Is there interest in some sort of MetaFilter weight loss/exercise challenge? (Meta-fitter? Har. Har. Sorry.) I did some MetaTalk archive searching last night, and found that this has been alluded to before in terms of crapmatic's pony request of diet.metafilter.com (summary: no.), as well as jbickers setting up a group on Gyminee, which is now the daily burn, apparently. And, of course, the topic of weight loss/exercise motivation comes up frequently in AskMe, not just exercise and eating well for weight loss, but for depression and other health related matters... SO! 1) Anyone interested in some sort of challenge? 2) Has anyone used Gyminee/Daily Burn? (I just joined.) Should we keep with it and do some sort of challenge on there? Or is there another site to use which is better? (I know some of us work in the metric system, and I don't know if DB has conversions available.) 3) Ideas on how to set up such a challenge are welcomed. (goals, timeline, etc.) I realize that there are running and cycling related challenges on other sites, but I'm imagining something closer to the stats tracked on DailyBurn, with weight loss or burned calories as a goal. No intent on alienating our slimmer friends, but considering the widespread effects of obesity and metabolic syndrome, I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. yes, thanks to my mom, i watched the biggest loser reunion show last night. this may have something to do with it along with my recently rapidly expanding waistline.

Tulsa is long overdue for a meetup. What say we get together for a post-holidays celebration of the Filter? Thinking of the second weekend in January. I've traded some MeFi-mail with nadawi, and it looks like either Saturday the 9th or Sunday the 10th would be best for her and radiosilents. I prefer the afternoon of the 10th, but should be able to do any time after, say, 6 or 6:30 on the 9th. I think we're leaning towards someplace downtown or maybe Cherry Street? I can throw out some ideas (downtown: Arnies, Caz's, Joe Momma's? or Cherry St. say, Kilkenny's or maybe the White Owl?) but I just moved back to town earlier this year after a decade-plus away, so I'm certainly open to suggestion. Anyhow, let's do this, eh?

Its Boxing Day. Surely you'd rather meetup than shop? sueinnyc and I thought a Boxing Day meetup would be grand. How would four PM or so work for everyone? Late enough so folks could meetup post shopping yet early enough to dissuade the frugal amoung us from shopping at all, your choise. Anyone have a preference on location? If the East End suits we could try The Drunken Monkey , as its actually pretty pleasant on a Saturday afternoon. If this isn't suitable please post suggestions for location in the thread! This time around Mrs Mutant, feeling her small far below sea level country is underrepresented in London, will import two additional people of the Dutch persuasion, her vader Roel and her broer The Dog.

Anyone attending Secret Garden Party on December 12th? Mrs Mutant & I noticed that SGP was hosting their Christmas Voyage at The Troxy, right across the road from us. Well, while we've always wanted to see the inside of The Troxy the cage fights they usually organise for Saturday nights (seriously!!) isn't really our scene. Although the crowd surely livens the old neighbourhood up before and after (especially after). So we thought we'd wander over, scope the interior and find out what some 2,000 party types would get up to down here in The Ghetto of all places. Anyone else going on December 12th? We were thinking about wandering into the party sometime after midnight, if that matters. Not sure if we'd find each other inside (three levels, four rooms, lots going on) but it surely would be fun trying.

SF is better than NYC. There. I said it.

Hello, San Francisco! I've been living here for six weeks now and already I know that this is the perfect place and time for me to exist. I love everything and everyone here, and I want to marry you all and best friend you and have a thousand million babies with you. Which is to say, YES! I live here now! KEEEEE YAH! Which is to say, YES! LET'S! MEET! UP! I'm thinking ~~Dec 18th~~ [note: Dec 19th instead, see below], because that is the day that maximizes the greatest amount of awesome for our awesome. I'll leave it up to you where we shall meet, and pray to Tlaloc and Marduk that this doesn't have to involve a spreadsheet. (and if you think I'm joking, look back at some of the NYC meetup threads) (although, to be fair, the spreadsheet did work pretty well.)

Hey, St. Louis Mefites, sambosambo is going to be in town on Nov. 29. Let's use him as an excuse to avoid eating more leftovers! Sambosambo will be in the area for a wedding and wants to meet up some time this Sunday. Mid-afternoon works best for him, so lets work around that. I'm going to go ahead and throw out the suggestion to go somewhere on the Loop since I have a rehearsal (as usual) that evening at the Touhill, and that's pretty close for travel time. (It doesn't have to be Cicero's, since that was a bit loud last time - though a Sunday afternoon might be a bit tamer...) So... discuss!

Sorry Dallas, Austin school's out meet-up? Spikeleemajors had mentioned in the last thread about having another meet-up after finals, and i really think that would be a good idea, as I really enjoy the meet-ups After finals puts us at the weekend before christmas, or we could do the 6th or the 13th. The 13th is in the middle of finals though. My suggestion is the Pour House, as previously mentioned, also in the last thread. Or we could do dog and duck again, that place was really cool. Food was amazing, and when i spend that much on a sandwich i am glad when the flavor gives me my money's worth. Tell me what you guys think. By the way, i was coming here to do this before I saw the Dallas post. Really not trying to be a jerk, coincidence i decided to take advantage of.

Dallas sucks! Remember how much fun we had at the anniversary meetup in July, and we were all "We're besties now, let's do this every weekend, forever!!!" and everyone else was all "YEAH!" Then.... nothing. Austin has met-up three or four times since then. Even Houston has planned a couple. Dallas? Verily, we sucketh. Therefore, it is time. So, what say you? Should we look at a date in the next few weeks? Any ideas? Shall we air the Festivus grievance airing? SantaCon? Suggestions on parts of town? Dinner? Just drinks? Thoughts? Who's in?

The awesome ocherdraco will be in Philly December 10-12. And it's been entirely too long and I mill all y'all's shayna punim. Let's get come drinks and food and show her a good time, shall we? That's a Thursday through a Saturday. Do people have preference for day of the week? In the past the Belgium Cafe was accommodating with our large group and offers both food and drink. However, willing to take other suggestions for meeting places as well. I'd suggest the yummy dim sum place, but it's gone.

Fancy a late November London Meetup? Since Mrs Mutant & I couldn't make it to the last London Meetup and the holidays are rapidly approaching, we thought as penance we'd try to organise an end of November London meetup. Would anyone would like to get together in roughly a fortnight, say the weekend of the 28th? We'd tentatively suggest either Friday or Saturday. Friday would be a later start, say 7PM or so, while for Saturday we'd like to suggest maybe a 4PM start. We're good either way. As we'll have kin visiting from Amsterdam (Marielle's vader, Roel, who attended a meetup with us in Amsterdam) we'd have to bugger off after roughly three hours but that way, in the manner of all enzymes, we'd emerge unscathed from the conflagration and not only able but willing to organise a December meetup.
