Can't tell who said what

What happened to put quotes in italics?

Brevity is the soul of. . . what again?

Flagging a post as "too long."

Playing time of video in superscript? Annoying!

Is this the first time someone has linked to videos with the playing time in superscript? Am I the only one who finds it really annoying?

Use of Wikipedia ^

I made a FPP (Stern Review of global warming) linking to Wikipedia using the ^ - for stylistic reasons, I wanted to emphasis the second link in the FPP and not the Wikipedia link, which is the first link, and so wanted to keep it small and unobtrusive. Someone< ?> then changed it and made it a full link. Is there a style-policy? Is it documented anywhere?

The link is what you're supposed to talk about

Would everyone please cut it out? Pretty please?!

Too many links makes a post something something

Can some sort of rule/guideline/something be considered, stating that FPP's shouldn't have a bajillion links, one in each individual word?

I know it's not a serious thing, and a programmatic solution isn't the way to go, but when I see posts like this it drives me nuts. Am I the only one?

Clean up possible misquote to avoid nuclear fallout

Cleanup on aisle 50764.

While I appreciate what a fun fireball the thread might turn into, the subject of the FPP is miffed by syntax in the FPP which might be construed as attributing a quote to her (when in fact it is a quote by someone else whom she is disagreeing with), and the FPPer has also said he/she has no problem changing the syntax, so in the name of avoiding nuclear fallout, could Jessamyn or Matt edit the FPP?

Don't copy the article, link to it

When y2karl quotes 4000 words of an article, it's really annoying. Just link to it. Thanks.

(via) format

I think the "(via)" cuteness is not as useful as "(via BoingBoing)", just to give a common example. Frequently, I'll think "is this the link I already saw, or another one on the same topic?" and having to actually mouseover to find out is just too strenuous.

Is it just me?

format impedes discussion

Interesting post (maybe) - hoist by it's own petard.
Initial comments ignore the substance - format impedes discussion.

When a poster replies to his own post, would it be possible to mark it as such?

A suggestion to improve Metafilter: When a poster replies to his own post, would it be possible to mark it as such, such as starting out the post with "Poster: ", or maybe each poster could do this manually to make the thread more readable. Just an idea.

would you guys please make a little more sense?

"The post is what you bring to it."

What's the consensus? I find these 'random word links' very annoying. Can we at least have some etiquette rule that says if you have more then a hand full of links, the text of the link must reflect the content of the linked-to page? Or something?

When a FPP doesn't start with a link I get confused.

When a FPP doesn't start with a link I get confused. It looks like a continuation of the previous FPP, sometimes. And I can't tell what the featured post should be. Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed this with greater frequency lately.

Could we have a [more inside] feature to encourage people to keep their posts short?

An attempt at a solution to this [more inside]

Good descriptions wanted on front page

is there any good way to encourage people to post real descriptions (of any kind!!!) to front page posts? please? it's tiring wanting to click a link without having any idea what the post is actually about. and the comments on that thread (at least the first few, when i saw it) don't exactly help.
