Three ponies for remembering things

I would like to request that, when considering how to delete things and preserve privacy, we adopt these three practices:
  1. Deliberately leaving empty spaces / blanked comments / deletion notices as replacements for comments in threads that have been closed to discussion and have additional comments removed (e.g. via an account purge). This will help keep discussions that have faded into site history in order while also preserving privacy
  2. Provides some means -preferably not entailing any kind of download or export- for users to access their own comments on posts/questions/etc. that have been purged. This will let folks remember their own contributions, even if the context has necessarily been lost
  3. If user A sends user B a memail, user B keeps that memail even if user A purges their account.

Splinters of Memory Keep Poking Me

"All my life I’ve been visited by unexpected flashes of memory unrelated to anything taking place at the moment." – Roger Ebert There was a MeFi or AskMeFi post on this topic some years ago. Many a MeFite was relieved to learn that it isn't an uncommon thing. I neglected to favorite this wonderful post and would like to see it again. Can someone help? Many thanks. I'll remember you -- when I least expect it.

Post about memory and narcissism?

Can you please help me find an old post about people who at first seemed to have incredible memories, but were later found to be just really self-obsessed? [more inside]

Moderator provoceteurs.

Why is video evidence of a police officer breaking the law not considered FPP worthy? Why, when subsequently posted (read: buried) in a thread two days old, 330+ comments large, and long-since derailed, is that post deleted as well?

Favorites as bookmarks? Polioutragefilter!

Brain.. hurting.. in a recent(!?) political outrage filter, some brilliant individual made a wonderfully astute comment where he/she/it postulated that reforming government and all it entailed was a wildly complex set of problems, and the issue with the standard tea party(?) mindset was simply wiping it all away and that isn't a reasonable way to fix it. Can't. Find. It. Can you point me to it?

Your solitary compulsion becomes a shared experience.

This AskMe post blows my mind in a minor and enjoyable way. Who knew? It turns out a lot of people have a Tourette's-like response to embarrassing memories. [more inside]
