Hi there, mods. Yes, you. Mathowie, jessamyn and cortex. Please stop closing MeTa threads so early and so often. I think you're forgetting the "community" part.

MetaTalk RSS doesn't validate, isn't properly formed XML--due to
unquoted special characters. This seems to be getting irritatingly common, is something missing out of the auto-quote list, or could we have auto-quote for the RSS beefed up in general? AskMe never seems to have problems, just MetaTalk almost every week or so.

MeTa-pony-request: Can we highlight the mods' responses in MeTa threads? [MI]

Can we keep threads open a bit longer, until the discussion covers some of the nuances of policy? Even when everything make sense to admins, it seems like the reason to have it on MetaTalk instead of via email is to clarify it for the rest of us. E.g., the recent "self-link" post was about someone getting banned for posting an article published by the same magazine he writes for. Presumably the magazine is just promotey and not cool or something, but I would've asked in thread if it were left open (I'd assume the same standard wouldn't apply if you were published by the New Yorker or something)

Before yesterday, it'd been
280 days, since November 11th, that we'd gone without a Metatalk post.

Suggestion to reduce complaint-filter: a MeTa queue similar to anonymous AskMe. If a complaint can be handled by an admin one-on-one, the admin can deny the requested post and take the conversation to e-mail. If it's a meetup request or a policy issue that seems worthy of discussion, the admin can approve it and let everyone chime in.

I had a dream about Metafilter. I think that's sort of meta, so I'm sharing it here.

A call to MetaFilter readers (unregistered, too) to help put the finishing touches on the Mondo Meta version 2.0 MetaFilter tool.

Is there any way of having an overlapping system of tags to categorize these MetaTalk posts? So for 'feature requests' that could be a sub-tag of either the 'Metafilter', 'Ask Metafilter' or 'Metatalk' tags. So when I want to see what is being discussed about improving Ask Metafilter I start by selecting that tag and then start clicking the sub tags to get more specific. Finally, the reason I am asking is because I am concerned about the flooding of questions on AskMe and the thing I would do is have a separate section for technology questions as those questions seem to be at least 50% of all questions asked. Cheers.

Is it fair to consider the number of comments an FPP receives as an indication of community interest in the post? If so, then it is a pity that eustacescrubb's
great find (a real best of the web IMHO) gets only a handful of comments whilst
yet another FPP about Ann Coulter frothing at the mouth generates so many.

Recent changes:
1) I finally updated the MetaTalk posting page to be more like the rest of the site, and added titles. RSS will soon have titles added. Also, no more "bugs" category as the generic catch-all, as I force you to pick one.
2) - For firefox 2.0 and IE7 users, you might notice being on a mefi site,
the upper right search box is glowing or highlighted. If you click it, you can add a server-wide MeFi search (using the Google aggregated results from all *.metafilter.com sites) and search directly from your browser.

bug: can't submit an AskMe question. The final "post" button just reloads the page, like the "preview" button. Firefox 2.0.0.1.

Is someone compiling/has someone already compiled statistics such as: the average number of favorites per post, the average number of comments per post, comment quantity by time posted, average number of favorited posts by user, etc? I assume this has been discussed here in meta previously, but I couldn't find it in searching. Feel free to direct me to old threads on this topic though.

Is it bad form to make a MeTa post that draws attention to a still open AskMe question I made a few weeks back that still remains unresolved and for which I now have new data that could help in it's resolution? Or do I need to bite the proverbial bullet and ask an entirely new question on the AskMe front page with a link back to the old question? I'll admit, I'm reluctant to do the latter because I'll now have to wait 2 weeks before I can ask another question, but I also want to see my question resolved. What's the consensus here?

I have never seen a
completely disappeared MeTa post before today. Given what passes for normal on MetaTalk, I fear that there must have been a truly unspeakable horror contained within it to merit this special handling. Do I walk on dangerous ground, merely speaking that post's name? If so, I take it all back, I saw nothing, there never was a thread 1347... what was that number again? I forget now.

With all the AskMe talk, we hardly talk about the blue. Yesterday was a outstanding day on there and I just want to say thanks to every poster, even those who got deleted.

We recently had a MetaTalk thread regarding a three-letter word for a male cat and a five-letter word for a sea-faring vacation. I won't protest the thread's deletion; the entire site exists at the administration's discretion. What concerns me, however, are the Orwellian implications of deletion with no residual record in a community-based site.

If MeFi was a comic, would we all be small furry creatures or what? Would we be drawn like Doonesbury? Would it be a one panel or a strip? Would Matt be the lead character? Would it be more than one strip?

It would seem to me that a deleted post with tags would be more useful than a tag that hasn't any posts.
[example] (if the tags hadn't been deleted). Why aren't all deleted posts purged of tags
[example] so that search results are less questionable?

(I am not a programmer so I have no Idea how hard this might be...) Would it be possible to have a link attached to each original posting in Meta and AskMe, that could be clicked by the reader to open all the links the poster included in their original posting, in Firefox tabs? I know this sounds lazy, but I thought it might be a neat feature...

Is there a way to get the software metatalk is based on? I'd like to create such a site for a unique project... or something similar? or should I just go with a wiki or phpbb type site?
this would be for a small group of people to ask each other questions (no question limit or fee.) for a large extended family...

Couple of issues here. I just accidentally marked a post as a favorite (stupid new mouse). Could the "favorited" confirmation page include a link to my favorites management list, or better yet, an undo? Also, from this
this favorited confirmation page, the "Return to post" link is broken.

I just wanted to publicly thank
FuzzyVerde, who actually delivered three tubs of ice cream to my pregnant sister today for her birthday (complete with festive cooler). The idea that a complete stranger halfway around the world would
offer to help me out is just amazing. I love MeFites!

Doesn't make sense unless MetaFilter is coming from the South Pacific.
