Can it be added to see: "Most Favorited Posts in the Past 365 days"? Since it is the end of the year, and I am seeing the "Best of 2009" stuff everywhere, it sure would be neat to see a Mefi best of the past year. I regularly use the Popular Favorites; is it possible to add a new option for the past year, both for the blue and the green?

Meetup in Singapore in 2010? Why not! So infini was mentioning to me over MeMail that she was back in Singapore town for a short time. I was therefore, wondering if you (yes, all three of you, you know who you are!) were interested in another Mefi meetup in the straits. My suggestion would be the weekend of Jan 8th, either 8th or 9th in a pub or tea-house of your choice. What say, oh ye hive mind? :-)

Adam Curtis blog now international friendly

Now we can see (most of) Kabul: City Number One. This post about Adam Curtis' blog on the BBC website was hampered by the fact that a lot of the video content was not accessible outside of the UK. But, as Curtis said on his blog, "the BBC is now allowing me to show most of the video material on this website internationally. Some will still not be viewable for rights reasons (and I'm afraid the It Felt Like a Kiss film is one of them) but the majority should be available by the end of this week."

Best recipes, food ideas, cooking hacks of ask metafilter? I'm putting together a collection of recipes and other cooking related ideas into a small booklet that I can copy, cut, staple and use as a stocking stuffer for my immediate and extended families for christmas. What are the recipes on metafilter that have most changed your cooking and appreciation for food? And not just recipes... anything, from simple kitchen hacks to specific combination of ingredients that you never would have thought of. I'm mining this thread, at the moment.

Nostalgia for blue and green

What happened to the Mefi blue and the green on my Acer Aspire one netbook? All I see is white. I usually read Metafilter on a 2006 MacBook. On the netbook I find that Metafilter, AskMe and MetaTalk are all black text on white. The backgrounds of other sites are not loading properly either. Is there something I can do to fix this, or is it a consequence of the small size of the netbook display and not fixable? I am using an Acer Aspire one netbook (D250-1905) and Windows XP and Firefox 3.5.6.

FDA investigates radiation overdose at hospitals

This NPR story from the 15th about radiation overdoses at three hospitals from CT scans reminded me of this post on the blue awhile back, which is now closed. I still think of this from time to time, so I thought some of you might be interested. Specifically:

"It could be due to human error," he says. "Or it could be due to problems in the design of the CT scanners, or it could be a combination of both."

The welcome-back message on the front page reads 'x links and y comments posted since your last visit' (except, y'know, with numbers). But most posts contain more than one link. Would it be better to have it read 'x posts and y comments'? There's probably a downside I'm not seeing.

Is there a record for most consecutive days making a meaningful FPP post? Just wondering. I've been making FPP posts of interesting articles and topics I've read over the last week, and they seem to be well received. I have a ton more stuff and will make posts until I run out of cool stuff or the mods tell me to cut it out.

I, too, have reason to thank MeFi today: Back in January, peep posted to Metafilter about Mel Juffe and Edward Gorey's The Recently Deflowered Girl, which had been long out of print. Through a delightful stroke of luck, I have become the editor responsible for bringing the book back into print, and the mefi thread about the book was pretty darn helpful to that end. We're publishing it along with two other Gorey books, including my favorite, The West Wing, a wordless exploration of a very strange house. All three books will be available next week in the States. For an editor like me, who's just getting started in her career, it means so much to me that I'm getting to work on these books by an author I love so much. It's so cool that the internet (and especially, for me, the post on mefi) brought this to light and helped get it back into print. Thanks, mefites!

Thanks Metafilter On October 31, the lovely and talented LN married some bonehead she met on the internet. We had met at a very small meetup on (Canadian) Thanksgiving two years ago. On Halloween night, you all were in my mind as I made our thanks and gave our toast at the reception to absent friends and family. So, for all of you shy guys (and gals) out there in mefiland, I have to recommend walking up to perfect strangers in a bar, telling them you're a bonehead and asking if they're "from Metafilter". It's a sure-fire winner, in my experience. Thanks Metafilter, from two ridiculously happy people.

Australian Racism Denial - uergh!

The sheer amount of racism denial in this thread is seriously frightening me. Blackface was never a problem in Australia? Racism is rare? Racism is a thing of history and doesn't apply to Australians? People speaking up and critiquing Australia's entrenched racism are just "peckerheads"? Wow. I don't feel safe posting in that thread anymore. To them it's like the experiences of myself and my peers don't even matter.

Trivia site Sporcle (previ-ously) finally opened their quiz creation tool to the public and, inspired by good news for the insane's challenging 10th anniversary test, I decided to make one of my games dedicated to Mefi. Mine's not nearly as difficult as GNFTI's, but does require a little more effort. Instead of multiple choice, you just type your answers into a text box, based on the categories and clues given below. If you type in a correct answer, it'll show up on the board. If not, just backspace and try something else. There are seventy answers in all (plus a few seekrit invisible bonus slots that only show up if you guess the right thing). When you're done, click "See the Most Missed" to view charts of how often each answer was guessed and how you did in comparison to everyone else who took the quiz.
