Metatalktail Hour: Talktail of Shame

Phunniemee says, "Inspired by this comment, it would personally amuse me to read through a thread of dumbest / biggest screw up / most embarrassing / lols things that assorted mefite professionals have encountered doing their jobs." [more inside]

Terrible Typos

I have seen people get really anxious about having typos in their comments. To the point that, if they miss the edit window, they'll follow up with a post pointing out their own mistakes. How harsh is the metafilter crowd really? Will people get judgey about a post / disregard the content if there are one or two mistakes in it?

stupid computer movies

Looking for a post about glaring errors in hacker movies. I am not sure if it is the post itself or if it came up in the comments, but I'm sure I remember a thread about stupid errors using IT in films, especially 'hacker' type films. Sorry, my search-foo is weak today.

When, if ever, do admins admit they were wrong?

When, if ever, do admins admit they were wrong? Throughout the history of MetaFilter and MetaTalk in the 11 years I’ve been here, I see admins justifying or defending their actions and I almost never see admins admitting they made a mistake. [more inside]

Twitter on profiles isn't updating

My profile is showing my "last" Twitter status as an update posted two months ago. I've made plenty of updates since then...

Fix My FPP Links

Oops. Can someone correct one of the links in my FPP please? "Two" and "LPs" both link to the same place. One of them should go here instead. Thanks!

Did someone change my URL?

An URL posted here has changed. I posted a link to the Glass Engine on the weekend as http://www.philipglass.com/glassengine/#. The URL now coded inside the Metafilter page is http://euphorbia1.client.dti.net/glassengine/ but it fails to connect. The www.philipglass.com site appears to be down as well (and I really hope I didn't get the place MeFied) so the original URL doesn't work either. This is not a redirect I'm talking about: the code in this Metafilter page is different. I just checked http://www.jerrykindall.com/ where I got the URL -- and his code has changed to the new URL, too. Say, you all aren't trying to glasslight me, are you?

MetaFilter in IE doesn't allow View Source

I've noticed that MetaFilter in IE doesn't let one "View Source". Is this by design? Given the current state of search it might make sense to allow it. When researching a new link for posting, sometimes its easier just to search for the URL in the source.

Scholarship voting problem

I voted for all of the essays, but when I went to check my votes with the provided link, it claimed I had not voted for any essays. Is the problem a bug or just me?
