So, I heard about the punk band Fucked Up from this post, and I'm excited to be going to the show today. Who else is going? Want to meet up? It's free and it sounds like it's going to be a good time. I've even heard rumors of free booze. I'm sure a few Mefi punk fans will be there so why don't we hang out outside of the internet, it's fun to meet new people and listen to punk rock. What time will you be there? I'll be there around 4 or 5. I look like Jesus and I'll be sporting my (almost) metafilter-blue fleece shirt. Let's get fucked up!

Frankenstein Night, anyone?

Sci Fi Screening Room event meet-up in NYC? I've been asked to present a clip at Frankenstein Night in the East Village on Monday the 27th, and I thought it would be a good opportunity for mefites to mingle under Halloween-esque pretenses. In addition to old clips there will also be a radio-play performance of Mary Shelley's original story. Admission is $7. The venue, Under St. Marks, has a bar, and it would be a blast to go out foraging after the curtain has fallen.

Another AskMe-related shady-answer call out. Some dude just posted an answer in an Ask thread that had been thoroughly answered with a somewhat irrelevant reply, and used it as sneaky way of spreading the word about an upcoming meet-up. Not cool, "Some dude", not cool. Or is it? Seriously, how frowned upon is this behavior?

Yes, it's another NYC meetup thread. Is anyone up for a meetup in New York City on Friday 25th or Saturday 26th July? I know Lola_G is having one the previous Friday which I may or may not be able to attend, hence the suggestion for another one in quick succession. Friday evening, 25th, would be great but I also really like the idea of maybe having a picnic in Central Park on the Saturday afternoon, leading into an evening of drinking somewhere, and ending at Katz's in the wee small hours. Or something.

Specklet will be in New York Memorial Day weekend; it looks like the best days will be the 23rd and 25th. Also, I'd like to know if any Boston mefites are planning to see X on the 20th at the Paradise--I'll be in town between the 18th and 21st to see both them and the Spanish art exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts.

I'm going to be in NYC for a conference the weekend of April 4th/5th--anyone up for a meetup on the Friday or Saturday evening? I know this is following hot on the heels of the meetup proposed by Del Far the previous weekend, but I'll be juuuuusst missing that one, as I arrive in New York City for a weeklong conference on April 1st. Drat! However, if there's anyone who can't make the one on the 28th/29th (or doesn't mind back-to-back meetup gaiety) I'd love to get together with other Mefites on the evening of Friday, April 4th, or Saturday the 5th. (Spec80 has said she's available that weekend. Yay!) Also, I'm not familiar enough with New York pubs or bars to confidently suggest a location, so if anyone's got one in mind, please throw it out there.

NY Meet-Ups Hello! I'm new to NYC (4 month anniversary coming up) and now that the whole mess of moving and settling is finally done with, I am starting to realize that I don't know very many people here and I would like that to change. Things are starting to get pretty lonely. I see postings for meet-ups that have already happened, but where do I look to find meet-ups that are being planned? What are other ways that have proved successful for you all to meet new people? I'm relatively shy at first and I work long hours and often 6 or 7 days a week so it's very hard to get outside of my work environment. I work with great people, but I don't always want to hang out with them after being together all day. Help! Happy New Year! :)

Photos of last night's NYC meetup. In attendance were: Afroblanco, brujita, CunningLinguist, DaShiv, Help, I can't stop talking!, hermitosis, jason's_planet, jonmc, lalex, Lola_G, mdn, muckster, Nathaniel W, pips, Smart Dalek, StickyCarpet, and one guest. I ♥ NY. Where else can you laugh at the sheer disdain on the face of a gorgeous, impeccably-dressed woman as she strolls past a guy singing and playing his guitar in the middle of Times Square while wearing nothing but a cowboy hat and tighty-whities? Snarf down a huge and delicious pastrami on rye at Katz's in the Lower East Side, then hop on a train to catch a taping of the Daily Show with Bill Clinton in Midtown? Grab Italian food in Brooklyn, then top it off with a cone from Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory next to the river? Hitch a ride with a chatty cab driver while immersed in the never-ending hum of the Manhattan streets as life continues on at ground level in the middle of the night? Head into any random pizza joint and not finding a single bad slice (yet)? But it's really about the people in this city: self-important and self-absorbed, but so generous and so beautiful. The whole lot of you. If it weren't for these intolerable (for a Californian) "seasons" things of yours, your insane housing, and your highway robbery cigarette prices, I'd move out here in a heartbeat. As it is, I'll have to be content with merely loving this city. My apologies to the latecomers last night for not getting your photos. Be sure to check out muckster's photos from the evening -- they're great! I think this photo of me and jonmc really captures the MeFi meetup spirit. And for anyone in the area: please stop by on Wednesday night. I'd still love to meet and photograph you. He's not even here in NYC yet, and we're already planning his gooodbye party- come to DaShiv's Goodbye Dinner on September 26th. Where: Arunee Thai Cuisine in Astoria (best reached by taking the M60 Bus to Steinway Street, or the N/W Train to Astoria Blvd). The food is quite delicious, and reasonably priced. When: Wednesday September 26th, at 8:00 p.m. Why: Because not everyone is going to be around for the "big" meetup the weekend before, and this will be a nice intimate goodbye for DaShiv.

Yes, another NYC meetup. I'm going to be in NYC from 18-28 October. On my last visit in June, the meetup was on the day I got there, so I was barely coherent from jetlag (whaddya mean, nobody noticed?!). I know I'll be catching up with my NYC MeFi friends during the visit, but hope there'll also be a meetup too. I was thinking about Friday, October 26th. How does that sound? I'll leave my Social Secretary, The Pink Superhero, to find a suitable venue but please chip in with suggestions.
