Why can't I reach Metafilter?

What is being done to curb the continuing amount of times that MetaFilter dies in the arse each day (e.g. when it's inaccessible)? Just wondering.

Why does MetaFilter occasionally just wink out of existence?

I'm fairly new around these parts, so forgive me if this is stupid question, but why does MetaFilter occasionally just wink out of existence? This doesn't seem to happen to most of my other favorite sites.

Outage, whoops

Sorry about that, but for the first time since I started hosting mefi at server matrix, there was an outage:

D2 OUTAGE: www.metafilter.com Last Updated: 05/04/2005 19:05:17 Details: This server did not come back online after reboot. We will investigate shortly.

(bwalker-05/04/2005 19:05:17): This server would not power on. We have swapped the chassis and this machine is now powered up and responding to ping and RDC.

But all should be good now.

Sorry about the brief outage today

Sorry about the brief outage today; the networking equipment at this end of the T1 had a seizure, apparently, and needed to be restarted in order to get things back in order. Makes no sense to me (or to the networking gurus at my ISP), but there you have it.

For the record - I'm extremely PISSED that BloggerPro has been down for over 12 hours now without warning. It didn't bother me when I was a freeloader, but now that I've payed for it am I alone in wanting a little bit more than I'm getting from Pyra?

I just want needed to vent...

There seems to be a router problem somewhere on the east coast (looks like globex's mae east facility is having probs), according to my traceroutes. I can barely reach the site. If you're having trouble connecting as well, that's the issue, it's not the server or Jason's t-1 line.

The spellcheck function still appears to be dead. I saw that Thirteen already mentioned it but thought I might go ahead and mention it again.
It was a pretty cool feature. Now it just bugs me. :)

MetaFilter outage

FYI: MetaFilter was down for about three hours this morning because of a shoddy power chord. The power chord could wiggle a little bit in the back of the server, and when it did, sometimes the power connection would break. This would happen occasionally as people walked right next to it, jostling it ever so slightly. Today though, it looks like it happened at 6 in the morning in a locked office, so I replaced the chord with one that won't cause it to power down.
