They Can Kill Me But They Cannot Eat Me: PDX 10.2 this Saturday, It is Happening. *First, to the mods, I apologize for this re-post. I submitted a form dealy a couple times to get the meet-up on the sidebar, but it never made it. Here is the original thread. -If you want to attend, mefi mail me and I will reply with my address. -I think it should just be BYOBeer/Wine/Liquor for the sake of easiness -There is a grill...so bring whatever things you might like to grill or other snacks/treats/goodness for s'mores -And yes, there will be marshmallow roasting. -Starts at 6? Or whenever you want to come over. -Dersins said he might bring eggs...so...there might be eggs... -We will be showing The Entertainment, so you may never be able to leave heh. heh.

Who's in for an Original Portland™ meet-up with Cortex on September 12th? Cortex and possibly a few others from "away" will be in Portland, Maine, on September 12th. He's expressed a likin' for lobstah rolls and beer but is game for anything. One option would be Sebago Brewing, or possibly Gritty McDuff's. Someone suggested Local 188 in the his tour announcement thread (not tried it yet but their menu looks great). Those who say, "ayup," please RSVP and toss out your venue suggestions. Late afternoon or early evening.

Fuck Yeah Portland Mefites. Now onto the next one! So last night's meet-up was fucking awesome (and I'm now ready to give East Burn the greatest wait staff in pdx award). Gecko and I got to talking and, given that the only downside of the East Burn is their antagonism to customers roasting marshmallows on their table fires, the next meet-up could be in my backyard, where there is a fire pit (and, as it turns out, is only blocks away from dersins...) Gecko and I were thinking September 12th. Yeah, we know its kinda soon, but why the fuck not (WTFN)? And that way we can hold a little candlelight vigil for David Foster Wallace... Thoughts? Questions? Answers? and yeah of course Cortex won't be there, and we've all gotten a little spoiled here in pdx with the mefi celebrity appearances at our meet-ups, and no it won't be the same without him but we're just going to have to deal...

Portland OR meetup in late January? I will be visiting your lovely city from Monday, January 26 until Sunday, February 1. Would anyone be interested in getting together with this Philadelphian on her first visit to your town? Monday through Wednesday I'm staying at the Lloyd Center, and the rest of the week I'll be downtown (not sure just where, yet). I have plans for the evening of the 28th, but other than that I'm completely free.

Portland, OR Obama Victory Meetup! Some of us Portland MeFites were otherwise occupied and didn't have much chance to properly celebrate Obama's victory last night, so how 'bout a meetup? Yes, we just had a meetup recently...but this is a special occasion! Last time, several of us found the Deschutes Pub too noisy and crowded for our tastes. Anyone interested in meeting at a coffee shop instead? Or, say, some kind of restaurant that serves alcohol, but isn't really a pub? I'd vote for downtown or NW, but all suggestions are welcome. I'm thinking this Saturday, Nov. 8. I know it's short notice, but I'm ready to celebrate already! All the photos of people weeping with joy and screaming and dancing in the streets are getting to me, and it's hard to keep my mind on work. Anyone want to convene for some revelry?

Attention Portland, OR mefites: Portland's literary festival, WordStock, occurs November 8th and 9th. Among the guests are internet troubadour Jonathan Coulton and MetaFilter's own John Hodgman, who will be doing an hour long panel together. Also, I'm going to be working at the booth for Ooligan Press for a good chunk of the weekend. Part of the time I will be running a pitch table, along with some of my fellow publishing students. So, if anyone is planning on attending the festival, I'd be more than happy to act as meeting-up point for any WordStock Metafilter hanging-out hijinks. And if anyone has a book or book idea that you think meets Ooligan's editorial interests (you can find that information on the website), feel free to bring it to the pitch table. I can't promise to give you any preferential treatment, but you might be more comfortable pitching your book to someone you know from the internet than to a complete stranger.

Portland Oregon, let's meet up Friday or Saturday! I'll be in Portland from tonight til Sunday night on something that I'm calling a vacation. I'd like to see Portlanders. I'm staying in SE and have a nice place where I could host people, or we could meetup someplace downtownish or someplace else. Who is around this weekend? Hint: the answer is not cortex/mathowie, alas. Also, side note, the All Girl Summer Fun Band is playing a free show tomorrow after work which I also plan to attend.

Any other Maine-folk planning to see The King of Kong at SPACE Gallery? I'm planning on going and it seems like the sort of thing some people here might be attending, so just wanted to say that if you see me there, please feel free to come on over and meet me. I will probably be dressed in some soft of video-game appropriate shirt, but I don't think there is an actual dress code. More info on the event: One of the best reviewed films of 2007, The King of Kong follows an epic battle between a middle-school science teacher and a hot sauce mogul as they vie for the Guinness World Record on the arcade classic, Donkey Kong. Galen Richmond's one-man-band Computer At Sea coaxes pop songs and glitch breaks out of a tangle of aftermarket Casios, repurposed videogame machines and handmade electronics. Listeners are invited to play along on a circuit-bent Nintendo Entertainment System. Music before and after the film. Doors open at 7pm, I plan to get there and buy tickets before the music starts at 7:30.

Portland, OR MeFites: Far from home this Thanksgiving? Us too. Please attend our Orphan's Thanksgiving dinner/short film festival! When: Thanksgiving Day, 11/22, 5:00 pm. Where: Our house (me and sleepy pete). Who: So far, me and sleepy pete. Also cmonkey, cortex, and secretariat. Menu: Big damn turkey and tofurkey (aka "jive turkey"). You bring: A side and a short animation/movie to watch afterwards. (Can't cook? Bring hooch or something store-bought. No movies? Don't worry, we'll have plenty.) How to RSVP: Please memail (aka "milfmail") me with your interest and proposed side so we can avoid a turkey and 500-crescent roll dinner. I will send you more details. Disclaimer: We have 2 cats. They are extremely full of dander and friendliness. However, if you touch their tails they will eat your face. We will say "aw" and supply Neosporin but we are not otherwise responsible for any injuries you sustain. Come as you are. No pictures if you don't want them taken of you, no shoutouts if you don't feel like shouting. We will just eat and drink and have some laughs and get sleepy. Don't be shy.
