Is there a good way to have volunteer Mefites critique my grad school personal statement without asking an AskMe?

Assuming any MetaFilter users are interested in writing posts or comments during voting and counting, how will this bloggie handle what will be its 4th US presidential election?

Could we maybe try to be a little better at labeling links that go to videos? Not everybody is in a position to view video content at all times and it might be nice to have a little advance warning.

What are your techniques and tools for making a killer post? I have a desire to start making somewhat regular mefi posts that have lots of substance and links...

Has the average daily count of front page posts increased over the last five years? When I joined back in 2006, I seem to remember the average being something like 23-25 posts a day. Now it seems to be about 33-36 posts a day. Do the numbers back me up? Or am I imagining things?

I study popular music, and needless to say I go to school with some pretty amazing musicians and song-writers, many of whom have MySpace profiles and websites with their songs on them.

The welcome-back message on the front page reads '
x links and
y comments posted since your last visit' (except, y'know, with numbers). But most posts contain more than one link. Would it be better to have it read '
x posts and
y comments'? There's probably a downside I'm not seeing.

I am wondering if people could assist me in locating Ask Metafilter questions along the lines of
this and
this. I know it's a concept frequently asked about, but evidently the concept's too amorphous for tags to be of help, Related Questions just circularly refer to each other, and I can't find the right Google-
fu for this one.

Why is it that sometimes Metafilter shows the correct number of posts and comments since my last visit and other times it's as if I hadn't ever clicked a thread?

A while back (more than 2 months, less than a year) I remember an FPP that linked to a few short films of birds swarming in the sky in giant flocks that nearly darkened the sky. Might have been somewhere in the Netherlands but I recall it being an annual event. The swarming activity made for amazing patterns in the sky. I don't think this was just in my dreams but can't find it through any searches of the site. Can anyone help?

So, about this best post of the day thing.. are you announcing it on MeTa every day?
I think it would be kind of cool if you also highlighted it on Metafilter, ala AskMe favorited comments. That way, scrolling back a day or two on the front page I'll be able to tell the winning posts at a glance.

What's the etiquette on posting stuff you've just seen at somewhere like
BoingBoing? So far this morning, there's been 2 posts that appeared on BB in the last week. I saw them when they first came up there, and thought, "hey, this is neat, people on Mefi would like this," but then decided against posting them here. I know that sometimes one can encounter a flurry of "
Xfilter!!!!" comments by doing something like that.
Should we actively avoid posting things we've seen on other, highly popular link-oriented blogs?

it seems an awful lot of us regulars
click-through to double posts, just to see how they will be handled. it's interesting, because a double post creates a whole new dynamic. we don't want thread-related discussion going on over there, but we apparently enjoy and even participate in the double post related discussion. do we need a name for this phenomenon, or at least a sniglet? other thoughts?
