Self-link/Spam fighting

After seeing this post and the posting history of the author, I had a bit of an idea. [more inside]

Accessing the scan of existing posted URLS

My blushes at making a duplicate post to the blue have been spared more than once by the code which scans my proposed URLs and looks to see it there is an existing match. Phew! However I have only ever found a way of accessing this facility after having first of all composed a post to the point where I can preview it - hence wasting quite a lot of time. Is there a way to access this scan directly?

Simple ideas to help stop double posts.

Ok, So I committed a MeFi sin the other day and made a double post. I felt a bit embarrassed but it got me thinking about a couple ways to prevent some of the double posting that goes on around here. If any of these ideas are taken up maybe something good will come out of a double post for once.

A better way to prevent double posts?

Seems to be an awful lot of double posts, often within a day or two of each other. Is there a better way to prevent reposts eg a tag search function which orders results by date. (No doubt this has been asked already, probably four posts down...)

tag search might further eliminate dupes

Avoiding duplicate threads with different URLs: In order to avoid posts like this, a tag search might further eliminate dupes. Would it be worth having (for example) the last three FPPs using the same tag(s) listed when you preview a new thread? And would that be easy to implement?

Preventing mistakes in URLs

The person posting this today seems to have made similar mistakes in links as the person who posted this five days ago. Just wondering if the mistakes can be identified and better avoided.

What were we talking about again?

I'm a big fan of IraqFilter, but when we post new developments like this thread by Postroad, can we provide a little direction about what's supposed to be discussed? Perhaps it might lessen the flamewars/snarkyness that ensues. [more inside]

what stops people from using metafilter like metababy?

what stops people from using metafilter like metababy? Is it understood? Is some sort of Hive Mind at work here? Although you retain final edit control Matt, what stops someone from entering malicious code or javascript that provides information about members to a second source unnoticed? Is there some sort of preventative measure I don't know about?
