The login page redirects properly on the first username/password try, but not on subsequent tries. [more inside]

I commented on this thread but my comment ended up in and I was being redirected to this thread.

When I'm looking at a user's page and click the timestamp of one of their MetaTalk comments, the link redirects to the original post instead of the user's specific comment. Does this happen to anyone else?

minor annoyance filter: can the url: http://www.metafilter.com/tag/x redirect to http://www.metafilter.com/tags/x? (likewise for AskMe)
I know it's minor, but "tags" seems nonstandard given how other sites work.

Pony request: after logging in, can we be sent back to the page we clicked the 'login' link on, instead of being directed to the main page?

When logging in from the bottom of a thread could the log in page return us to the thread instead of to the front page?

Is anyone else having, ahem, a problem (to be euphamistic) with the links on this FPP?
posted by oddman on Jul 23, 2005 - 30 comments

The last few times I've made an FPP, I've hit 'Submit' and it's pointed me back to the homepage...without the post. I hesitate to try again because I don't want it posting twice. I realize this was just discussed but I wanted to see if anyone had had a similar experience recently since the bug seems to remain.

I know this wasn't intentional, but the first link in this post, now redirects directly www.goatse.cx.

Sat bored at my compressor, tapped in my Mefi username to Google, as you do, and discovered a host of mefi sub-domains!

bushfilter.metafilter.com,
where.the.fuck.is.metafilter.com,
www.iamnotaddictedto.metafilter.com,
www.betterthanapokeintheeyewithasharpstick.metafilter.com,
a-list.metafilter.com,
cheesemakesmynipplessing.metafilter.com,
wilwheatonseemslikeanokguytome.metafilter.com,
kottke-is-my-hero.metafilter.com,
2nd.birthday.for.metafilter.com,
plushcthulhu.metafilter.com,
mattisaciaagent.metafilter.com,
furbo.metafilter.com,
mobile.metafilter.com.

Now, my [niaive?] questions are:
- How many subdomains are there?
- How do my comments get assigned?
- I only post to Metafilter.com & metatalk.metafilter.com, so how did google find them & rank them?
- Looking at some of those site names, I have to ask: Does quonsar actually have admin rights here now?

I tried to load up metafilter earlier and it was taking a while. I noticed at the bottom of my explorer window it said something like "Opening page http://www.b4ta.com/metafilter" Then the page failed to load entirely. I'm confused.

Won't someone please register metafitler.com, with an autoforwarder to MeFi, to make my accidental keyboard dyslexian habits a little less deflating?

This is a very small and unimportant request, but maybe it would be easy to implement. When we login, could we then return to the page we logged in from rather than jump to the main index? Or perhaps get a choice of the two? I only login at work when I want to post; maybe I'm in the minority here.

Often, I will be reading MeFi on a work or other computer and am not logged in. When I see a thread that I'd like to contribute to, I log in from the "Login" link on that thread...which dumps me back out on the front page. Is there any way to have the Login link on a comments page dump back to that particular page after you've logged in?

Linking to a redirector url from another site instead of the url of the article/site being talked about is sub-optimal. In this example it is a Fark redirector which points to a news site.

I know this has been discussed before, but I think it might be interesting to say that some part of France still can't access MeFi and are redirected to Plastic instead. (more inside, hopefully)

Re: LoFi MeFi, I really like it, but also keep forgetting to use it. I've got a huge bookmarks list, and still manually type most of my addresses, for some reason. Could this be added to the prefs screen, so those of us who want to use it just get redirected?

does anyone get a redirect to plastic.com when they hit mefi? i've just started working at a copy place that starts with kink and ends with o's, and when i try to access mefi at work i get sent to plastic.com.
