RSS feed or reader broken by long thread?

The November Experiment thread has broken something RSS-related. I'm trying to follow that monster thread via RSS and I can't get the feed to load in my reader (RSSOwl 2.0.0 build 2009-10-24). Checking the log file, I'm seeing this:
MESSAGE Error loading 'Comments on: November is National Let's Try Obscuring Favorite Counts Month'
Problem: Error on line 26308: The character reference must end with the ';' delimiter.
Link: feed://metatalk.metafilter.com/18396/November-is-National-Lets-Try-Obscuring-Favorite-Counts-Month/rss
Is it the RSS feed that's broken, or can my reader just not handle it? Is it working for anyone else?

comment count in rss feeds

pony up? how about a comment count in the rss feed? i use rss more than the webface for checking on metafilter and askme, sometimes just to go back to old threads; it's my main interface for the web before pure browsing.

a comment count would just be a neat way to keep up on the state of old conversations and to see whats going on in new ones you might come to after they're already underway. it won't happen in realtime, i know, but it would be interesting, nonetheless. kind of in the way the 'closed thread' line shows up in rss; i always get excited and have to go see what happened!

Can we RSS for posts and comments?

It would be cool to have RSS feeds on a per user basis. I'm thinking mainly posts but comments would be fine too. Something like http://www.metafilter.com/username.mefi/user/posts.rss and http://www.metafilter.com/username.mefi/user/comments.rss. It'd be a great way to keep up with people whose stuff you enjoy (like everyone's favorite) w/o getting lost in the volume.

Using upcoming.org to organize Metafilter meetups

Upcoming metafilter meetups meet upcoming. The kids at Whedonesque recently started using upcoming.org to organize their events. If we did something similar to what they're doing here I could just pull in a RSS feed from the event search for "metafilter" and display it here, as a sidebar. Also, anyone could subscribe to the search and keep track of new events around the world. Sound good?
