I'm going to be in San Francisco on family vacation from August 3rd to August 10th. Any suggestions on what I should do there? Anyone want to meet up for a meetup? Advice: I want to do something foody or beery, as I consider myself a homebrew nerd and a foodie. I'm more familiar with East Coast beers, so all I know of your West Coast breweries is Sierra Nevada, Stone and Rogue. Set me straight on your craft beers! I've already been to Frijtz, so don't worry about me suggesting it. Anyway, I'm planning on doing this as a pleasant excursion from the family vacation, not in place of the family vacation. So don't call me anti-family for not wanting to spend every second with my neo-conservative birther grandparents!

Is San Francisco all Meetupped out? Or are there SF MeFites who might want to get together to show a Texas boy a good time next weekend? Evening of Saturday the 24th (so that people nearby can make it in easier)? I've never been to San Francisco. I'll be in town for the weekend just for fun, visiting politikitty. It would be nice to meet you all. Otherwise, she and I are just going to spend all weekend making out in front of doublewhiskycokenoice and watching C-SPAN.

Hey, San Francisco, I'm coming for a visit April 30th. I'm going to be in town for NACBA. I will be staying and working at the Marriott Marquis, and will only be available the night of the 30th, I'm afraid, after 7:00PM. I am willing to take transportation to anywhere. I've got to work at 7:00AM the next day, so I'm afraid it's not going to be an all-nighter (for me, anyway, go nuts!). I'm always willing to hang out with any number of MeFites, so even if only one of you could make it out for a beer, that's still cool with me. Whether or not an actual meetup materializes, I am on a mission (heh) to get one of those fabulous Mission-style burritos I have heard you guys talk so much about. I've never been to SF before, so where do I go for the best? Burrito meetup? Game on.

I'm not the most timely of chaps, and SF folks are already meeting this weekend, but might any MeFites be going to see Orbital at The Warfield next Friday, April 16? Or anyone want to meet around there before or after the show? I'm not a local lad, so I thought I might try and meet up with whoever is around, or even see if other MeFites are going to the show (event info: doors at 8, starts at 9, no word on an opener). I'm planning on being near the venue by 8pm or so, and then lurking around the area to get coffee afterwords, if there are any night owls in the area. Of course, if people wanted to meetup elsewhere that night, I'd love to drop by and say Hi, on my way to or fro.

Is anyone attending WonderCon (San Francisco Apr 2-4) and, if so, how about a meetup? I've never been to any con before! I'm not that familiar with comics! None of my friends seem to be going! It's been over a week since my last meetup! But WonderCon sounds great this year, and maybe there are other MeFites who want to show me around or hang out or something? Friday or Saturday is better for me.

Our beloved linguist and surfer gal iamkimiam is leaving us for colder waters and even more linguist in-jokes. She's going far, far away for grad school, and we're going to give her a San Francisco metafilter meetup sendoff in the best way we know how: A MEETUP AT FRJTZ!! The meetup will be at Frjtz, which is at 590 Valencia Street at 17th, conveniently close to the 16th St BART station. The meetup will begin at 7 pm on April 10th, and go until we decide to go somewhere else, the place closes, or Kim gets tired of us. And yes, this is also part of the seekrit San Francisco plot to take over the meetup sidebar with Bay Area events.

Hello San Francisco! How about drinks this coming weekend? A sudden trip to the west coast has fallen into my lap. So I'll be in San Francisco Thursday - Sunday and would love to meet some mefites. I'm staying in Castro (the Castro?) according to Google maps - Dorland St., to be specific - and won't have a car so walking distance or excruciatingly detailed public transport directions would be great. I'm coming in late late Wednesday night and leaving early early Monday morning so any evening Thursday - Sunday is good by me. Also, all tourist hints and suggestions are awesome as well. I have never really been to the west coast before and everything will be new and strange. Museums! Galleries! Cheap as hell shopping! Strange Californian food! Strange Californians! I am psyched.

SF Meetup - February Edition. I'm back in town after many months and I'd like to get out and see the bay area crowd this weekend or next ? A few options I'm thinking of: 1) Jupiter - (East Bay (that's right, I said it)) - right off of bart...beer + pizza = good. 2) The Trappist (timing is tough) or Pacific Brew Co (1 - 4 blocks from BART - (also East Bay, downtown oakland). 3) Somewhere in SF that hasn't been hit in a while by the local crowd - must be BART-able... Right now I'm leaning towards Jupiter or The Trappist, even though The Trappist is packed...all the time.

Hello, San Francisco! I've been living here for six weeks now and already I know that this is the perfect place and time for me to exist. I love everything and everyone here, and I want to marry you all and best friend you and have a thousand million babies with you. Which is to say, YES! I live here now! KEEEEE YAH! Which is to say, YES! LET'S! MEET! UP! I'm thinking ~~Dec 18th~~ [note: Dec 19th instead, see below], because that is the day that maximizes the greatest amount of awesome for our awesome. I'll leave it up to you where we shall meet, and pray to Tlaloc and Marduk that this doesn't have to involve a spreadsheet. (and if you think I'm joking, look back at some of the NYC meetup threads) (although, to be fair, the spreadsheet did work pretty well.)

Bay Area mefites - let's get the planning started for cortex's 9/29 visit! I figured I'd start this off. Although we're pretending that this whole cortexian world tour thing ISN'T a competition among cities to prove who can throw the best meetups, we should still manage to show cortex some love. He's here Tuesday September 29th. The weather should be good - what about starting at Zeitgeist? Outside, good beer, the tamale lady, etc. We could potentially adjourn to Pauline's or another nearby restaurant if some folks are less enthused about meeting in a bar. I imagine there might be some sort of wandering about the city earlier in the day for those of us with fewer work-type restrictions. Maybe the Academy of Sciences? Also bacon donuts. I did try to convince cortex that he should be here for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, to no avail. I even mentioned the banjos. Any other mefites interested in a subsequent HSB gathering?

I will be in San Francisco from 9-12 September to take part in SF Shorts. Let's have a meetup! My short film "A Doorman's Lullaby" will be playing as part of Program 1 on 10 September at 9:30 and on 12 September at 7:30 at the Red Vic Movie House in the Haight. I'm still working out my lodging, but someplace around the Haight would be great, and I'm a sucker for inexpensive and tasty.

I've never been to one before, but after reading the thread about going to meetups, I'm excited. I wanted to go to a Toronto meetup, but plans to be downtown fell through for me. So, what say you? Christmas? Chanukah? Kwaanza? Festivus? Who the hell cares!? Everybody knows the funnest holiday ever is really SanFranProdigalMefitesMeetupMas! This year, it falls on December 27th! Share your festive ideas and traditional SanFranProdigalMefitesMeetupMas customs inside! I miss The City and you wonderful mefites soooo much! Ungh! And so I'm making a point of swinging through after the family jazz. contraption and I thought perhaps dinner over a couple of Zante's Indian Pizzas would be enjoyable, and then a cocktail or so? Of course, as mere pilgrims, we're always open to better ideas! I could totally go for something extra dorky like a white elephant, too! Ya think? So very excite. How about another San Francisco meet up, say October 24 or 25? Someone was just asking when the next meet up was, and mrzarquon happens to be visiting from Seattle that weekend. Mrzarquon wants to go see the new Cal Academy of Sciences building, as do I, but that's a bit spendy for a meet up. Something involving drinks on Friday or Saturday evening would also be good. Any ideas? Who's interested?
