I'd like to see a change in attitude towards Scottish people on Metafilter. Seeing my poor countryman practically meta stoned to death a few posts below - I think our US-centric mefites really need to extend the hand of warmth and friendship here - how happy would YOU be if your country didn't even warrant an entry on a drop down menu ? Did we stop the US bid for indepence ? No ! apart from shooting a few of you in the battle of Georgetown, we've been extremely supportive - what are we getting in return ? Accused of meanspiritedness ? Let me paint a picture of my native land here: It rains, it's grim, wolves howl in the wilderness - it rains again. You go on holiday to local beach, which has a sewage pipe in the middle and it rains there too. How positive do you expect us to be, stumbling out of the dark of the portobello sewage pipe for the first time ? Please my chums, please remember that we complain out of affection - we say things are shite because we like them. Therefore, please welcome us a bit more as we really do love you all very much. This is the Happy St Andrews day thread.... As the vast majority of mefites are Scottish, i need hardly explain - but St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland and today is our national day. Generally we go round to our neighbours and beat each other in joyous drunken celebration of what it means to be Scottish. I know this is a rather scots-centric post, but i am sure the small minority of mefites from the new world will bear with us. Now let all the Scots join this thread and hurl gratuitous insults at each other and bring up petty grievances from the past.

Another scottish meetup ? i'd like to humbly apologise for missing the last one - but it seems to have gone quite well anyway, which was good - so i bet you're all glad i started it : ) What's prompting this is the sad fact that jackmo is going be playing his test department and nurse with wound records at people quite soon and he spammed everybody on facebook except me - even marquis our former scots mefite who now lives in greenland gets a spam invite - so i'm thinking people are probably pretty hurt that i didnt turn up for the last one and here i am, offering to make amends. I will dance and i will sing, i will sign things, i will make you happy : )

Anyone think we could have a meetup in Scotland again ? I admit the idea of meeting for tea and scones in jenners was a bit unappealing as was the thought of the store staff preventing some anonymous members dousing their digital life cocks with bisto during the event - but perhaps some more realistic members than i can propose a venue ( anything but Dundee )? I will suggest a venue to get us kicked off - Harthill Service Station.

This post got me wondering - how many of us will be in Edinburgh for the Festival in August? Sailoreagle is there, and I'm going to be there in a couple of weeks, so that makes at least two. Maybe a UK-but-not-London-with-some-international-colour meet-up is a possibility?
