Can we get a keyboard shortcut for adding favorites? I use the j/k and m keyboard shortcuts all the time, but when I want to favorite a post or comment, I need to reach for the mouse. This will not do! I suggest "a" and/or "+" for adding favorites, avoiding "f" to avoid confusion with "flag" (Though I'm not sure a "flag" shortcut makes much sense since flagging is surely less common than favoriting for most people.) I know that adding favorites requires an HTTP request to the server, whereas scrolling is an entirely client-side operation, and I'm not sure how the current code would cope with a user who's manually scrolled the page after using j/k keyboard navigation, but I still want my pony.

The Single Best Method I've Found for... Given the perennial popularity and utility of "What's your favorite way to X" AskMe questions, and recipe questions, and frankly, the to-me fascinating quality of stuff like this, why not have a MeFi section devoted to lifehacks, recipes, and other time/money/environment/effort-saving shortcuts? The "Eat Me" Wiki, for example, is a nice compendium... but it looks like someone put some effort and time into it. Why not just have a section in which MeFi users can post lifehacks at random, so that users can just find these things via tags? Applying the voting system used for Projects might add to such a section's usefulness.

Quite by accident, I noticed today that it's possible to scroll through MetaFilter pages using the vi-style "j" and "k" keys (at least with Safari). Has this always been the case?

username.mefi shortcut URLs no longer work

Is the "http://metafilter.com/username.mefi/username" URL format broken? I've been using this URL format as a way to quickly find the profiles of users mentioned in threads when there wasn't a link provided for years now, but when I tried it a moment ago I was redirected to my own profile. Has this functionality been broken for a while, or did something change recently?

Ctrl-shift-t collision in Firefox. If I hit ctrl-shift-T to unclose a tab in Firefox while I'm on a MeFi page, it transports me to the text-box. Now I've completely lost my place wherever I was reading, and I have some extraneous <em> tags. Similarly, if I go to italicize my text using the keyboard shortcut, I end up opening the last tab I closed. Since more folks use Firefox than MeFi, is it possible to change MeFi's behavior?

Firefox reopen last tab issue

In Firefox 2+, if I am on a Meta page and I click ctrl + shift + t to reopen the last tab, it jumps me down to the comment text box and places opening and closing em tags in it. If this is a Meta shortcut, could it perhaps be changed to not interfere with the Firefox shortcut, since I think a lot of MeFites use Firefox?

In trying to flag this post, http://ask.metafilter.com/57197/Dont-Worry-Be-Happy as the worst sort of existential Chatfilter/guideline buster, I realized there isn't a 'link' feature in MetaTalk. And I am an HTML cretin. I expect this is intentional, or I'm missing something obvious.

HTML shortcut buttons are nonfunctional

Since yesterday, I've been unable to use the shortcut to post links in threads. The shortcut window pops up as usual, I paste in the URL, and hit OK. Then the window closes, but without having inserted any code into the text. (I'm using the same ol' IE5 as usual.)

There now seems to be a Mozilla bug (version 1.2.1), perhaps related to these changes. When I press the "Preview" button in Opera, the window below "Comment Preview" disappears, along with my text. It used to be perfectly fine. And it still works in IE and Opera. But since some users here might be downloading the latest available release, I thought I'd bring it to Our Fearless Curator's attention.
