By request, I updated my Metafilter Stats for the first time in two years. User growth, Top 20 lists, and daily stats are all current, as of last week. [more inside]

Ever wondered which sites Metafilter users link to the most? I've updated Metafilter Sources for the first time in two years, showing that Youtube and Flickr are now in the top 20, and that Wikipedia is now the most popular external source ever. Move over, Newsfilter... It's Wikifilter time!

Also, I updated the Metafilter Stats charts through June 2006. More analysis inside.

Metafilter thread and user growth stats have been updated, along with the top 20 charts. Five consecutive months of no new users means less overall threads and comments, but the Blogstop acronym thread broke the top 3 most commented entries and Tom Swifties broke the top 20.

Metafilter Statistics have finally been updated, and the top 20 charts are back. The big news here is that it looks like thread/comment traffic has slowly declined over the past few months, after a big spike in January. Also, the User Growth charts now show the number of new user signups per month, resulting in a cute graph (signups are on! signups are off!, signups are on!, etc). Now that I'm storing all the user/thread data in a database (instead of a flat file), expect these stats to be updated monthly again.

Metafilter stats are up, and they're crazy. We've never seen growth like this in a single month. Users, threads and comments all increased dramatically on 9/11 and every day since.

Thread/Comment and User Growth statistics are up for July. This is the first month that threads and comments actually dropped slightly, largely because new user signups are still disabled. Also, we broke 10,000 user IDs yesterday. Congratulations, Ricci.

New Metafilter stats are online. Check out the top 20 charts, the user growth statistics, and the thread/comment stats. The downtime barely put a dent in all the increased activity from the Kaycee threads.

I wanted to see how Metafilter has grown since its launch, so I crawled the archives for thread/comment totals for every day since July 1999. Then, I wrote a script to plot all the data in line graphs and tables. Click on the links to drill down.

It's interesting to see how quickly the commenting community have grown. At this rate, Matt will have to build thread-within-thread support to handle the sheer number of comments.
