We're working on a new login system for MetaFilter and we're looking for a few brave souls to try it out. [more inside]
Matt or Jess, you might want to nip this
in the bud.
I'm testing out tag search on MeFi. Here's a search for "goo
" and one for "music
" showing typical results. It can be reached on the search page
. Post any bugs or further suggestions inside.
I'm testing out a new ajaxy spellchecker here on MetaTalk for the next couple days. Let me know if you find it better/more useful/buggy. If all goes well, it could be carried over to every textarea on the server.
RSSdorkfilter: Here is a proposed RSS 2.0 feed
complete with timestamps, tags, and author names added. Here's how it looks in bloglines
. Is there anything missing for any app writers that use the feed? (paging Rothko...)
The new webserver is up and ready to go. It's at 220.127.116.11 and I'd like a few folks to test it out before moving the DNS over. To hit this server instead of the current one, for now you need to edit your hosts file, adding www.metafilter.com, metatalk.metafilter, and ask.metafilter.com mappings to the new IP. It runs off the same exact database server which is separate, so test comments will be seen on both the new web server and the old one. So far in testing the new server is going smoking fast.
I was thinking of using the new open source FCKeditor on all textareas here. Play with this demo textarea
and let me know what you think. Would WYSIWYG editing help or get in the way?
Anything we can do to help keep MeFi up? Because these frequent downtimes are annoying me. I need my MeFi in the morning more than coffee.
ProtoFilter or ProtoTalk anyone?
Most double posts and lame threads are unintentional. Search doesn't always work. So would it be possible to have a permanent testing thread here on MetaTalk? I mean a Any Obvious Objections or Good Ideas I Should Know About? sort of thing; where unsure posters could test the waters before committing to either MetaFilter or MetaTalk front pages?(more)
This is the first post for MetaTalk, to test out the system. Feel free to bring up bug reports, feature requests, and community musings here.
