In general I think there is a flaw in our systems here in that we spend an entire thread deciding where to go, but there is no reliable or predictable place that puts all the details in one location. So I have been hacking that with custom posts that put everything in one place.

Friday the 13th Meetup in Toronto! Got the guts? I would like to have a meetup in Toronto this coming Friday the 13th. As it's absolutely my first time to the city, I am open to suggestions about venue. I really hope to meet some Mefites, as I'm flying in all the way from Singapore (via London and Dublin), and honestly this might be my last long distance journey for a while to come. Anyone have any preferred drinking hole or restaurant in mind?

Can I put in a formal request to schedule the Toronto meetup? I can? Good. Here it is. I'm just about all unpacked now and I'd love to get out and meet you guys. It's been a great week - I really love this city - but it's been a touch lonely for us having left all of our friends and family behind for now. Let's get together and get drunk, ok? I know there's supposedly something "in the works" but I need (would like) a date, folks.

Meet-up in Toronto sometime in late Sept? I'm not sure if this is too early, but I thought it would be good to get a general idea from some folks to see if Sept. 24-27 was a good time for a meet-up (it's close to my b-day). I was trying to get up there this past April, but getting laid off kind changes plans, ha. Any festivals or events going on? I'm ready to take a vacation and meet some new friends ;-).

I've been wanting to move to Toronto for years, and now I'm finally able to do so! Now I have some questions... I'm 21, got my bachelor's degree in Marketing, and currently work as an Advertising Executive for Village Voice Media in New York City (it's the most successful alternative weekly paper in America). I was able to get the job because I have much work experience and self-started my own graphics company. However, I have been yearning to live in Toronto for a few years, and want to move within the next year. Due to my age and lack of any responsibilities holding me back, I feel that moving soon is right for me. Of course, I have a few questions: 1. I plan on having my passport by November of this year, and would like to move in the Fall of 2009. Is this time frame possible? 2. Is being a young professional a positive or negative trait in Toronto? Will my age be a factor in being able to get professional positions? (I'll be 22-23 by then...My Bday is late Sept.) 3. Is the job market going well for those with my degree? I've been reading and getting mixed reviews of the Toronto job scene...some indicate that more positions (and better opportunities) are available in Alberta. 4. How is the salary VS. the standard of living up there? I currently make around $60,000 in NYC right now, and am lucky to not have to pay rent (my family still own property here). If I did, however, my salary would barely cover living expenses (a one bedroom apt. here is around $2,000 per month...then add travel, food, utilities...you get the point). Is this true for you all in Toronto? 5. Is it recommended to have a car? I used to live in Tennessee (my dad's from there and refused to raise me in the city), but sold my car because I knew the transportation system in NYC was more than adequate. 6. Will my past job experience even matter in Toronto? I hear that it may not...and that's not a good thing. I'd basically have to start all over again with no previous work identity. 7. I plan on visiting the city in April, 2009...what are the specific institutions I should be in contact with while I'm there? Any particular websites? Any decent people on here who would befriend me and show me around? :-) All answers are appreciated...especially if you're around my age or job level. Thanks Guys! I just feel that Toronto is right for me, and I tend to follow my heart on decisions like these...that's why I came back to NYC in the first place.

I'm flying from Londonengland to Toronto next month because I need to make a series of cake-related decisions. So, er, meet-up? Due to these dessert dilemmas, I can't really do any other date than Friday February 15, or at an absolute pinch, +/- 1 day... which is why I've asked so early. I have only one requirement, which is the opportunity to drink a beverage at #e0c616 or darker. Oh, and I will need to take a GO train back to Mississauga at the end of the gathering. I can supply references. Anybody around?

Toronto meetup over the holidays? Is anybody available on either saturday the 15th or sunday the 16th, or perhaps the following weekend, for a downtown-based Toronto meetup? Gandhi's seemed to work out well last time, and although there is only seating for perhaps 10 people in the whole place (14 if you really like each other), the area is full of pubs and other such viable meetup venues. I'm totally open to suggestions. I must apologize for my poor co-ordination of the previous Toronto meetup at gandhi's; it was good food and good people, but there were only 3 of us. (No chagrin on maudlin and the dief, your presences were more than enough to make it good time regardless). Also, if anybody is in to video games and controlled substances, a pilgrimage to funland arcade on yonge street isn't out of the question.
