Thanks in advance.

Why is the capitalization on my username inconsistent?

Capitalization issue: why is my username capitalized differently in different places on Metafilter?
Metafilter, AskMe, and MeTa credit me me this way: "posted by Pastabagel at 10:57 AM on December 14". But when I write, I'm "Posting as: pastabagel".

In addition, I'm very cordially addressed upon my return to the site with "welcome back pastabagel" in the upper right corner (though grammatically I suppose it should be "welcome back, pastabagel" - but you didn't hear that from me). Has anyone else experienced this?

I suspect that I registered with the capital P, but I don't remember. When I log in I do so using only lower case letters. This is obviously a minor glitch, so you can of course tell me what I can do with my capital 'P' and I won't be offended. Thanks.

Similar Usernames

Similar names. There are multiple active users with my name or a variation of my name. I'm SpecialK, there's Special-K, and SpecialK420. I've had people email me about askme questions and answers posted by both of these other users.

I obviously wouldn't ask anyone to give up their identity, but in the future can we get some sort of policy from admins? I mean, otherwise, I'm going to start snapping up names like Ouonsar and mattowie before they're all gone...

@mathowie: Why are people starting to put commercial at signs before usernames when they are directly addressing other MeFites? Is this a convention from Digg or something?

Hey, MeFite Detectives! A request: Please think before you "out" someone. In our personal lives, most of us have learned that just because we can do something, it doesn't necessarily mean we should, and the same is true here. If a user (or perhaps the subject of a post, etc.) has caught your attention for some reason, and they have revealed (or you have figured out) their real life identity, and you go poking around to see what you can find, please think twice before publishing your big scoop.
