DC Area Meet-up Plans!

Plans for future DC area meet-ups! Not to be outdone by Chicago, there have been conversations about the possibility of more frequent DC area meet-ups. The 10th was a fantastic time and I know that at the very least Bulgaroktonos and I would be thrilled to spend more time with all of you. Loto has very kindly taken the time to create a mailing list for upcoming DC MeFi events but as yet we have not had any activity on it (or possibly there has been some and it's just fallen into the void of e-mails I'm not getting). The idea of monthly meet-ups still sounds good to me; we will be around next weekend and the weekend afterwards and also the weekend after that but not the weekend of the 28th. If these sound good to anyone else, we should definitely make plans to do something as unfortunately we seem to have lost planning momentum after we all stopped checking the 10th threads so regularly. If anyone has any time/place requests (at least for us Red Line accessible is best but of course we are flexible to suit the needs of others) that sounds good. Hopefully we can arrange something so that we'll be able to get together again soon as the 10th was the best time I've had in a while. In summary, if we could figure out something for later in August as well as determine how often and where we would like to meet in the future that would be great. Thank you!

Any other Washington, DC area Mefites taking part in this year's Artomatic? It's May 9 to June 15. I'd like to see your work and maybe meet. Registration is still open (800 artists so far). You should at least go and see it even if you're not taking part. I've got a nice spot on the 10th floor. In addition to visual arts, there'll be live music and plenty to drink at the bars.

It's just like a meet-up except better because it's not in Berkeley.

Nothing in Arlington, this is the real DC, though I'll throw for Rhode Island Avenue Mexican Food if people don't mind carpooling (I'll get a zipcar and Peruvian chicken.)

Mefi movie night in NoVa. Anybody interested? Not to be outdone by our SF brethren, I'm urgining all of you in the DC area to come to the last screening of the Washington Psychotronic Film Society at Dr. Dremo's, slated to close at the end of the month. Plan 9 from Outer Space will be showing on Tuesday, January 22. We had fun last time, and I know doctorschlock will be there--will you? Same deal as before: I'll plan on getting there around 6:30, unless someone wants to get there sooner. Generally, seating upstairs is more comfortable, as there are easy chairs and couches and such. Plus, bar access is easier. The screen is downstairs, and they start showing shorts and previews around 8. If you come after 7:30 or so and don't find us upstairs, that's where we'll be. Dremo's has a great selection of beers, and usually has something decent on special. The food is standard bar fare--wings, burgers, fries, and a few other sandwiches. I'm 6'5" and have a ponytail, so I'm pretty easy to pick out in a crowd. I'll try to have some sort of MetaFilter sign with me. Dremo's is 21-and-up, and they do card. Also, it can get a bit smoky in there, so sensitive types might want to give this one a pass.

Washington, DC meetup this Sunday (day after tomorrow)?! I'm going to DC for a job interview on Monday. I'll be staying with my brother in Mt. Pleasant (the job is in Reston). Come meet me and give me advice about whether or not I should move to DC. Sorry for the short notice, but I wasn't sure this was happening until recently.

DC Meetup at the Freedom Walk? Anyone want to join me in crashing the Freedom Walk in DC on Sunday, September 11? We'll need to decide on a suitable t-shirt or other identifying markers to make our point -- I assume that they'll be banning picket signs etc. Those interested must register in advance.
