Just wanted to highlight Lore Sjöberg's Mathowie-ing of Weird Al Yankovic's "Charles Nelson Reilly", which then inspired wendell's rewrite of the lyrics. Both fairly amusing and almost lost in the shuffle, I think.

I know that "this will wendell" is a (facetious) pun on "this will end well", but what's the origin and significance of this MeFi in-joke?

This thread is a shining example of how a humble single link blog post can bring out the best in Metafilter. Some of the comments in that thread are among the most candid and moving I have every read, especially those by bookish, wendell, uh126, and swerve. But there are many other insightful, poignant, and informative comments as well. In general, the discussion has progressed with a dignity and class that have become a hallmark of Metafilter. To all those who commented, thank you for sharing your lives with us. And thanks, 2shay, for the post.

So Wendell apparently harvested a bunch of Mefite email addresses and sent a pointless message to all of them, and a herd of the recipients went off on a "reply all" binge with equally pointless replies. Now I have a mailbox full of crap. This is without a doubt the lamest, most wrong-headed bullshit move I have experienced here. Thanks for nothing, jerx.

Okay, I give up. What does "this will not wendell" actually mean?

What is MetaFilter coming to when Wendell is the voice of serious reason.
