I will be there!

oh, that's exciting! I hadn't caught any news since leaving the house so didn't know things were looking up. I was gonna post to see if anyone could drive me home if I stopped by the meet-up, because otherwise I wasn't sure I could stay that late in town... (if trains aren't running yet, would anyone be heading williamsburg-ish afterward?)
I won't be able to get there until later, though - 8 or9. Is the plan to still be at 151 at that hour?
posted by mdn at 8:57 AM on December 22, 2005

I'm told the trains will be rolling tonight. Party Time!
posted by CunningLinguist at 9:19 AM on December 22, 2005

I'll be missing this one, but quaff one on my behalf.
posted by jonmc at 9:23 AM on December 22, 2005

I might come, if I can get a ride in. Crack, is that still a possibility?
posted by dame at 9:43 AM on December 22, 2005

Also, why do I not believe that the trains will be running somehow?
posted by dame at 9:43 AM on December 22, 2005

Yeah, I wouldn't count on it. Sounds like maybe tomorrow a.m. if we're lucky.
posted by hackly_fracture at 9:45 AM on December 22, 2005

Dame I'll email you my number. I gotta get on the road soon. Anyone else who wants a ride can contact me through dame.
posted by crack at 10:21 AM on December 22, 2005

Hey, mdn, I live in Bushwick, so if I'm getting a ride from crack, you should be able to do so too, I think.
posted by dame at 10:35 AM on December 22, 2005

I'll call in a bit crack.
posted by dame at 10:36 AM on December 22, 2005

Hells no, I am drinking toniiiiiiiight. Come on item, you can make it!

Hell, I'm counting down the hours.
posted by gaspode at 11:14 AM on December 22, 2005

No kidding- I am not getting a thing done today. It's all just a countdown to the meetup, woot woot.

I'm hearing that the union hasn't even voted to go back to work while the negotiations continue. Have they voted yet?
posted by amberglow at 11:49 AM on December 22, 2005

Yes! Here.
posted by dame at 11:54 AM on December 22, 2005

But it'll be twelve to fourteen hours at least. Come talk about it here.
posted by dame at 11:55 AM on December 22, 2005

oh, ok. (it's a big mistake on their part to go back to work before things are really settled, i think)
posted by amberglow at 11:57 AM on December 22, 2005

Yaaaaaay, yaaaaaaay, yaaaaay. Extra drinking is now in order!
posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 11:58 AM on December 22, 2005 [1 favorite]

I think so, too. Like I said, I sacrificed my special day, I want them to get roses and blowjobs.
posted by dame at 11:58 AM on December 22, 2005

Well, get your ass out there, dame, before it's too late!

amberglow: counterpoint here (from gothamist comments)

"Don't jump the gun on tactics or who blinked. I'll lay money the TWU signs a deal that is identical to the last offer, less pension changes, and still goes after to the state labor board as a result of the impropriety of the pension demand. And it was still effective as a strike, and that may empower the other city unions, who will be hit with the same pension changes next. We may see more, not less, one/two days actions. Not a penny in fine will be paid, and Bloomberg will not utter the word 'Thug' for the next four years."

Dunno, could be desperate spin, I suppose.

Have fun, y'all!

it certainly is, but management lured them with roses and oral sex
posted by PenguinBukkake at 12:07 PM on December 22, 2005

eh, you can already get oral sex in the subways. now, rose really are something special.
posted by amberglow at 12:22 PM on December 22, 2005

Only if you're gay. Straight men suck. Or don't.
posted by dame at 12:27 PM on December 22, 2005

hackly, i don't know about that--the union loses leverage by going back to work without a signed deal in their hands. It takes all the impetus to really compromise away.

item: I live at 117 and manhattan, nomad is picking me up and we may be driving down, email me if you need a ride. cmatta [at] gmail.com

No subways till tomorrow morning. Busses might start running around 5 or 6 PM if we are lucky.

Not in Antarctica, no.

PB: You keep making me giggle.

Dorian and crack are on their way to my house (which is so obscenely nice, since they're coming over the bridge to get me, then turning back to go over again), so we'll be seeing you all. Though I thought moving away from OC got me out of carpooling.
posted by dame at 2:17 PM on December 22, 2005

strange, because usually penguinettes giggle only when I tickle them (I blame the freezing weather). good to know anyway.

Dorian and crack are on their way to my house

you shouldn't say that on the phone, dame -- I hope you're not being wiretapped

Penguin would fit right in with us here--you in NYC? coming tonight? : >
posted by amberglow at 2:44 PM on December 22, 2005

I can prove crack is a person, I swear. Anyway, I must be extra ticklish what with my birthday and the strike ending and whatnot. Plus, I love the cold.
posted by dame at 2:45 PM on December 22, 2005

posted by mdn at 2:48 PM on December 22, 2005

I wish.

tonight for me it's frozen fish chased dowmn with the usual big glass of seawater (sparkling, tastes a bit like a tangy Pellegrino), squid chocolate mousse for dessert. maybe I'll drink a glass of krill beer to toast my New York friends.

if you run out of ice cubes, just send me an email

Oooo, looks like I get to be the first person to post post-meetup in this thread. As usual, you all fucking ROCK. Many pictures were taken, on both digital and polaroid film. I imagine some of the digital ones will be posted later. As for me, I must now collapse.

I just got home. It was awesome. Fantabulous shoutouts to come.

And the Grateful Dead still suck. Sorry to be the one to break it.

Item - it's a good thing that The Great God Garcia is all-loving and all-forgiving, otherwise, you would be toast. You should just allow His music to wrap its all-loving all-knowing arms around you. If you can accept Garcia into your heart, you are promised eternal bliss and kind veggie burritos from now into eternity. And then, on the Day of Sunshine, Garcia Himself will come down and turn all of his loyal followers into smiling neon dancing bears, and open the turnstiles to The Great Venue in the Sky, where the music never stops, and life is one ongoing Grateful Dead show, which I know is what you secretly want in your deepest heart-of-hearts.

Come, sit with us in a circle and join hands. Let us sprinkle you with patchouli. It is time for an "Om." Praise be Garcia. Ommmmmmmmmmmmm.......
