High-comment threads freeze in Firefox March 27, 2006 11:04 AM   Subscribe

If I'm not logged in, this thread--and others like it with a high post count--freeze Firefox midway through loading the page. But if I'm logged in, no problems. Has anyone else experienced this?

What extensions or Greasemonkey scripts are you running?

NoScript blocking the SpellChecker and AdBlocking the newsgator/yahoo/bloglines links fixed random freeze ups for me.

No fair! He got to post two MeTa posts without having to wait! I demand the same ability!

No, seems to work ok when I put firefox into safe mode. No excessive delay or such.

I've had 9622 grind Firefox to a halt before. But then again I'm running seven hundred extensions and 101010 Greasemonkey scripts.

Yes, this happens to me every now and then, which is why I try to stay logged in.

Firefox is a memory pig. Exit and try again.

This is, in fact, why we can't have nice things.

Fun, though.

It didn't work, Firas.
posted by matthewr at 5:00 PM on March 28, 2006

It did, I think, I just botched part of it. Here's another try:
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,1
So deep in luve am I;2
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry—

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
   And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.
                  —Robert Burns
1 This is the fifth line of the poem.
2 This is the sixth, doh.

Good stuff, Firas.

Wee, sleekit, cowran, tim'rous beastie,
O, what panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
Wi' bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murd'ring pattle!
I'm truly sorry Man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An' justifies that ill opinion,
Which makes thee startle,
At me, thy poor, earth-born companion,
An' fellow-mortal!
