AskMe RSS confusion August 11, 2006 1:22 PM   Subscribe

I would have just used the RSS feed, but I'm adamant about the "unanswered questions" thing, and the feed doesn't show best-answered threads. The Ask Metafilter RSS feed excludes questions where a best answer has been marked? That would be good if the purpose of the RSS feed was to expose unanswered questions to potential answerers, but if its purpose is to disseminate useful information, then best-answered questions could then presumably only be viewed through the site ... which defeats the purpose of having an RSS feed, doesn't it?

I think what was meant was that the RSS feed doesn't show the fact that a thread has had an answer marked best. Such a thread is still available through the feed.

Nothing is blocked in the feeds whether they have a best answer or not.

It's a conspiracy. I blame the either the jews, or everyone that is NOT jewish, or perhaps a combination of the two. I'm not sure which.

While we're on the subject, would it be possible to include the "category" field in the RSS feed? I know we've got individual category feeds but including a question's category in the main feed would allow us to customise the feed to show "all questions except those from category X". Would this be tricky to do?

Yes, that's what I meant. I should have said, "the feed doesn't reflect the best-answered status of a thread," which is what I needed in order to implement the "show questions that haven't received a best-answer" pony that I implemented here.

Implement, implement, implement... the word starts to lose all meaning when you say it over and over again.

Sorry, my brain was suffering from developer-itis.
