Mefi's Own Baby_Balrog: "Stephen and I traveled to Bilin, near Ramallah, on Friday. [...] IDF soldiers began firing CS gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets at the marchers [...] here's a video of me running away when the soldiers started firing gas canisters [...] I had my jump kit with me and tried to help a few people [...]" He's writing a pretty fascinating blog.

He's writing a pretty fascinating blog.

I agree, but I'm frankly not sure why this is a metatalk post. It's either good enough for the blue, or he should post it to projects. However, it feels out of place here.

Some day, faaar far in the future, there will be a post to one of the MetaFlavors that does not recive any comments questioning its right to exist.

to be or not to be, that is the question.

Also, leave it to fucking Metafilter for the first two remarks regarding a tale like the linked-to one to be about miscategorization.

This tale is TOO IMPORTANT to be governed by your "rules" man!

Actually, all 6 (7?) remarks so far are about the alleged miscategorization.

I understand that you're being hyperbolic, but there have been thousands of such posts. They all have a few things in common:

1. They don't suck
2. They are posted to the correct area of the site.

Baby_Balrog's blog definitely passes test #1 with flying colors. I was checking it out earlier today, and it's fascinating and well written.

This post, however, appears to fail test #2. Just because a blog is written by a mefite doesn't make it "metafilter-related," at least by my understanding of the definition.

Maybe I misunderstood, but my understanding is that stuff involving Mefites themselves is not allowed on the Blue.

I believe you misunderstood. Stuff created by mefites is posted to the blue all the time.

I agree that this is perfectly worthy of a post here. And to support the post, here are the songs Baby_Balrog has posted to Metafilter Music. Fantastic stuff.

You misunderstood. MetaFilter (the site), not Mefites (the people).

(Or maybe I misunderstood. Ain't nothin' in the FAQ, lessin' I missed it.)

Maybe if it was about a Mefite in the Sudan it would be different? Or in Iowa, filling sandbags? Palestine a little too touchy, mebbe?

I don't think it's out of place here. We've had any number of "Mefi's own" posts in the grey. Number one talking about products on etsy gets how many gushing comments, but a badass marching against the IDF gets this?

I have had such a horrible day filled with angry and alienated people, and I am reading Balrog's blog and I am so glad to see it. Tears are streaming down my face. I am so proud of him.

2. They are posted to the correct area of the site.

I'm pretty sure if it would have been posted to the blue some people would have complained saying something like "there are thousands of blogs on Palestine, are we gonna give this one a pass just because it's written by a Mefite?"

And yeah, it could have been posted to projects, but perhaps Baby_Balrog has enough on his hands right now to be posting it, and most of us wouldn't have found the blog otherwise, so, it is of general interest to mefites. What's the harm in having it posted here?

This is really not what MetaTalk is for.
