I'm assuming this got lost in the Great Server Disaster of 2009, but is the Infodump ever coming back?

We have some security stuff to do with perl still (which seems to be experimental in 64 bit windows), so we took down the "Stuff" perl playground until we could get all the potential sql hacks fixed up.

Ditto for the Markov chain post generator.

I cannot believe that this is the only time the word datawankery has been used on this site.

Perl. On Windows.

Who you calling a potential sql hack?

What Matt said. The rough shape of the situation is something like (a) bulletproof the perl setup or (b) rewrite stuff in CF.

Infodump may be less of a problem than interactive toys like Markovfilter because the files are generated behind the scenes and just served as precompiled data, but regardless we're opting to be cautious about it all.

You can just deliver it to my house, then. I live in a safe neighborhood. I have cookies.

I don't know what's sadder: that the infodump is dead for the undetermined future, or that someone had to point that fact out to me. Sigh.

If anyone out there knows how to get DBI, DBD::ODBC, SQL Server, and Unicode all playing nice on 64-bit Windows I have a few questions for you. Maybe this should be in Ask.

I have all the files from the October dump, if that helps any.

The best thing about being lead tech is you can post an AskMe as many times as you want.

I know nothing about Windows or 64-bit anything but people are experiencing similar problems in OS X and are actually compiling software down to 32-bit. Not sure if that is an option or possibility for you here (obviously, compiling SQL Server...really? SQL Server? Okay...is out of the question).

Is there a marked improvement in using 64-bit Windows? Why not run the 32-bit version and rest assured that it's better supported?

64-bit Windows is much, much better for ColdFusion. But yeah, downgrading to the 32-bit version of Perl might be the way to go, haven't tried that yet. In any case, we're going to be running any Perl on 64-bit Windows—that's not a variable option for us.

I have an old Vic-20 if you want to run perl on that until you can get the supercluster working.

Are they Cinnabons? Because, if they are, I'm there. With my Gameboy.

I can't believe Metafilter is the only site on the web on which the word "datawankery" has been used.
