The Döner inventor is alive and well.

so the fpp is kinda baseless. Maybe it could just be altered so that we can go on talking about delicious kebab some more?

It doesn't matter if rumors on the front page aren't true.

Kill it.

I'm gonna get a döner and feel sorry for myself.

Yeah, I really think the mods should start adding (maybe in leetle text) updates/corrections when something is blatantly and factually wrong.

Good to hear. Now someone tell him to f'n hurry up with my order, and get me some extra tzatziki.

Okay, since somebody still died, it would be awesome to note the error and change the fpp into a look-see at what this other person did if anything can be found. Somebody still died, and their life surely has some things worth noting or learning from.

Okay, I've corrected the error.

I can't wait for the headlines Tuesday, "MAN WHO INVENTED A SANDWICH STILL ALIVE!"

The guy basically made a sandwich, and got credit for inventing a new dish?

THIS IS NOW ANOTHER PLAGIARISM THREAD

What about the Döner Party? How have they fared? Is there any word on their travels through Sierra Nevada? I fear for them so!

Any news on Generalissimo Francisco Franco?

Man, whatever, he's gonna die at some point so just keep this one on file like they do at the papers.

I'm so glad he's alive, now will somebody ask him why he seems to think he invented meat roasted on a spit?

Abe Vigoda also still alive.

So now that he's seen how people respond to reports of his death, what will he make a foundation to support? Healthier sandwiches? Tastier sandwiches?

Still valiantly fighting to remain dead.

~.

(Negated dot, representing happiness that person is still alive. Wait, if I negate the dot, does that negate not just the sadness, but also the respect that the dot conveys? That's not what I mean at all!)

In other news, the guy who just a few minutes ago invented a sandwich made from pastrami, emmentaler, banana peppers and kalamata olive tapenade, toasted open-faced on fresh ciabatta bread, is also okay.

He has a little heartburn, though.

posted by goodnewsfortheinsane at 7:25 PM on February 23, 2009

Funny Tatort story: my wife is german and my german is wretched. Whenever we go to visit her parents, we inevitably wind up in front of the TV watching Tatort. I can always just barely follow the plot, but I can also usually figure out who the killer was right away. Why? Because the show adheres so closely to the Law&Order, double-back plot structure that it's ridiculous. So the first semi-guilty looking character will have done it. Then there'll be a mid-show phase to throw you off the scent. Then the dramatic return & the takedown. Cue cheesy music.

I resent being forced to watch bad German Krimi and I retaliate by announcing the killer as soon as I figure it out. I've never told them how I do it and it never fails to piss them all off.

Viel Spaß.

Who would have imagined the meat of a post about the inventor of the doner would turn out to have dubious provenance?

As far as I can tell he seems to have put different toppings on a gyro and gotten credit for that.

Star Kebab, Earl's Court, London: forever close to my heart. So many white shirts stained pink at the cuffs late-night post-pub by delicious, delicious grease running up my arms.

I propose that if a posted link proves to be false but it is believed that the discussion is worth keeping that something be done to make it clear in the original post that the link is false.

I propose "WARNING: CRUNCHY FROG."

Wait, are we talking about the guy that invented it centuries ago or the guy that started selling it in Germany? 'Cause that guy would have to be pretty old.
