Metabook Club Time! April 4, 2012 9:37 PM Subscribe
It is time to restart the Metabook Club! This time on Goodreads. We will be reading A Perfect Spy by John Le Carre. Join us for the discussion on Goodreads at the Metafilter group.
We are kicking around the idea of a May 7th discussion date start. Come to the group and give voice if you have another idea.
This is the first time the book club is using Goodreads and it would be great if it could be a success.
Bearwife is organizing it and I just accidentally talked my way into making this post about it.

Ack. I do not like how Goodreads had me "add friends" who are apparently already on Goodreads without telling me that it would be sending them emails about it. Oy vey. Well, I guess Jane Yolen is getting a reminder that I exist now (I moderated a panel she was on once a couple years ago; I would not have "added" her had I realized this was more like friending on Facebook and less like following on Twitter).
Caveat goodreader, I guess.

I can remember reading that book and loving it; this might be the incentive I need to reread it.

Hmm. I'll approach that sign up process with some care.

Basically just skip any "add friends" portion of the sign up, and you'll be fine.

Tell me reading club veterans, do you write notes as you read through a book you know you'll be discussing?
Is there anything you do different than if you were reading by yourself?

Yes. And I highlight passages I think I'll want to quote later. This is why I tend to read reading club books in electronic format.
I sometimes look for other sources about reading club books too -- e.g. especially wonderful book reviews.

Previously: Come participate in a mass Goodreads enfriending.
If you are new to Goodreads or to the Mefi group there, you'll probably find some useful info in that thread.

So, we just need to read the book before the discussion date and then show up for the discussion?
