July 19 was goshdarnitall a GOOD day

Now introducing : a 'Metafilter is getting better thread'! Is it just me and my interests-tunnelvision, or were the posts on July 19 just goshdarnitall more high-quality than has been the case sometimes of late? A little heavy on the flash and alcohol (two great tastes that go great together), but nary a single post of the 'Big Brother/Survivor' variety to be seen!

i don't think so much about the quality of mefi, really. i mean, i don't mind that there are news posts. but i'm conscious of the concerns some people have. lately i've been trying to post non-newsy stuff, since i've discovered i can usually play around with more stuff on those sites than a plain news article (this attitude probably explains my earlier post). i wonder what litmus tests others have when or if they post links that they've found?
