chatfilter?
Are questions that ask for advice and perspectives from those who have gone through similar experiences now considered chatfilter? I think this question should have stayed up.
Embrace this new feature, and take it to where it needs to go, where the world clamors for it to go -- OPTIONAL HYPOTHETICAL FILTER
Matthew:
For a long time, I have been sad at the loss of HypotheticalFilter. When AskMe was young, such questions would arise. But those days are gone now, as the site matured.
It's simply not done, you'd say. It floods the page with nonsense. It makes the real questions get lost. Still, I thought, I want to know how to dispose of a body, or how long we'd survive without the sun. Who would win in a fight? A squirrel, or a squirrel's weight in ants? [more inside]
The Infinity of Defining Chatfilter
No right name for that bucket of bolts
What makes this kind of ask.me post not chatfilter? There is no real answer to this kind of thing, it's just "hey, we got a new car, help us be cute!"
Question about deals: Bad deletion
How was the AskMe about "your favorite frugalities" chatfilter? Seemed like a legitimate question to me with some decent, interesting answers. Bad deletion.
Zombies vs. bears vs. monkeys
This is a great question but it didn't include the obligatory "For the purposes of a work of fiction..." disclaimer to keep it from being deleted as hypothetical filter.
Yeah, yeah, why do I care?
I'd really like to talk about this sleep question.
Good stuff.
It's a really interesting question though. (but it's chat)
I would like to participate in a disscussion about dumb, funny, or peculiar advice found in a self-help books. Oh, and I'll go first.
I don't care what you like
AskMe Guidelines: "If I like x, what will I also like?" Chatfilter or just supremely irritating? Or do I just have a pickle up my ass again?
Aren't these both hypotheticalfilter?
Simply because I've always been disappointed we never got to discuss this question, I'm going to go ahead and ask whether the same ban reason should apply to this one.
How is this spaying and neutering question not chatfilter?
Just curious:
How come the "Why are so many purported "animal lovers" pro-spaying/neutering?" askmefi wasn't deleted as chatfilter?

Just because philosophists don't get anything done...
Deleted?
This post was deleted for the following reason: chatfilter. What's the problem you're trying to solve again?
This isn't "chatfilter" this is an age-old question that could be served well by the hive-mind (community). Philosophical = Chatfilter?

Finding the line between chatfilter and AskMe
What's the key difference between "what are some great movie scenes involving food?" and "what are some great upbeat 80s songs?" that gets one post deleted and not the other?
Supplementary question -- has anyone ever noticed these help-me-with-my-list posts turning up in articles? I can't help but think that some of the people asking "name some movies for me where happens?" are getting their journalistic homework done via Ask. Is that cool if they are, or do we feel used?
On another forum, someone asked a "name some TV shows where <foo> happens" question, and I not only heard my answer on the radio three days later but heard it word for word. The guy had obviously cut-and-pasted my exact words and read them out on air.

Chatfilter is bad
Chatty open-ended questions diminish the usefulness of Ask Metafilter. Questions with no problem to be solved or where the problem is some variant of "I'm curious if other people feel like I do"
Increasingly chatty askme
An interesting post that became ChatFilter. A subsequent post that IS chatfilter. What bothers me is the trend. More questions are becoming increasingly open-ended. (I don't think that occhiblu's phrasing was particularly wrong, but I think that a lot of people, just because they're guys, thought that their opinion was useful) Which allows people to simply take a stab in the dark, offer their "off the cuff" insight, or otherwise just give an unresearched opinion. IMHO, this sort of thing defeats the purpose of an answer-oriented site.
Chatfilter?
I really like this thread (and, in fact, participated in it, but isn't it pretty much the definition of chatfilter?
What is the Policy on Chatfilter?
Why does this guy get a new asshole for not being scientific about his very unscientific question, when two complete morons, not to mention a related question, get helpful advice?
Chatfilter, yeah, but Christ -- so is half of AskMe.
Really. Tell me.
Is it simply the ebb and flow of the universe that requires some dumb questions go down in flames while others get answered?
Or is there a secret formula that evokes pity rather than scorn?

How is this not chatfilter?
"In light of the excellent responses generated by the "what is it like to be pregnant," I'd like to explore ejaculation and orgasm." The merits of the project aside, how is this not chatfilter?
Chatfilter Guidelines
Why was this deleted as "chatfilter" while countless indistinguishable threads weren't? [more inside]
One user's great post is another user's meh....
I really don't care to see a FPP about what you vaguely remember your friend told you today. The Wikipedia links don't help, thanks.
Gossip is better than tittyfucking
I am very much against the anti-gossipy-threads bias of so many users and of Numero Uno. More inside.
When is unhelpful okay in AskMe?
So when is unhelpful okay and when is it not? This thread is a lot of fun, but it's also a lot of noise. I assume nobody cares because it's kind of a goofy question, but I think it raises the issue of when is unhelpful okay in AskMe and when isn't it? [more inside]
Chatfilter cleanup
Thank you, Matt
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Matt for deleting the Invisibility/Flight thread in Ask.Me
"here's my favorite recipe" for snark on rye
Please tell me that "here's my favorite recipe" FPP's are not going to become a habit.
Chatfilter posts are bad posts.
Bad Post Callout
What do we conclude about a thread that simply poses a question?
