What is your Meta "thing" so to speak. We know some people 🙄 post a lot about video games. I was looking at my profile and surprised but not surprised to realize I've made 211 posts with the tag: videogames and 161 posts with the tag: literature. What are your top tags? What do you find yourself posting the most about?
Let’s Encourage and Help Folks Make Their First Posts
Over the past few months, we’ve talked about ways to encourage first (or second or third) time posters and help you/them become more comfortable with posting to Metafilter. I propose we spend September helping new posters successfully make the leap into the wonderful world of FPPs. [more inside]
We're adding a soft warning for long above-the-fold text on the blue
We’re adding a heads-up note to the posting process on the front page when previewing a long-above-the-fold post, to help provide folks with preemptive feedback about post length. It’s not enforced—your post won’t be truncated by the posting process or anything like that—but we’re hoping it’ll help folks think about how they’re framing stuff in terms of how much vertical space it might occupy. Tagging and construction posts
Hey, just a reminder that when tagging posts that if you put a space between words that counts as two tags, not one. [more inside]
Writing for the blue.
Once upon a time I read a guide to writing for the blue by a fellow MeFite who is known for excellent posts and describes researching a topic after stumbling upon an idea for a blue post and making sure it's not already posted. It's very thoughtful, well written and detailed. Further, it describes how to achieve those three things in a blue post. It's not in the wiki and I haven't been able to find it in Google. Can someone help me find this?
MeFi is adding titles
We're rolling out titles to the front pages of Ask, MetaTalk, and MeFi today (all the other subsites have titles on their front pages). In addition, we've revamped the posting pages on those subsites in order to make the title more obvious and prominent (along with improved helper text). [more inside]
Cat on a Scanner
Not a call out of anyone specifically, and certainly "be the change you want to see" but the front page today is comprised entirely of one-liners, mostly SYTL. Maybe it's decompression from the August Best Post Contest, but typically MetaFilter is known for it's "essay-like" posts and it feels like reddit today. [more inside]
Pony request: Silent Meta, Hidden Filter
Would it be possible/easy to set up a MetaFilter account which allows for tagging, favorites etc., but has no ability to post comments? [more inside]
Blue or Green
So I have an article that I want to post, but the article is essentially a question regarding how people read. Abebooks had a blog post about it and the Guardian picked up on this issue as well. Should I post this on MetaFilter or under AskMefi? No matter where I post it, people will offer up their own preferences for how they read a book. As I see it, this post would be more appropriate in the Green, but I'm not certain.
Horse Glue Factory: Frist Post versus Meaty Post
I hate to get sidetracked but I find it interesting that there will always be two sides when it comes to this issue of how one should post on this site. Link heavy or light? Get the info out there quickly so discussion can occur, or wait and find as many links as possible and provide more for the posting.
We should always be striving for the latter. [more inside]
Don't post in my own thread?
So, what is an acceptable amount of posting in a metafilter thread you started? [more inside]
A KISS Reminder for RelationshipFilter on the Ask Mefi Question Page?
Ask Metafilter relationship questions that are 25+ paragraphs long, which is a more and more frequently seen problem, never go well. How about putting wording to that effect on the Ask Mefi posting page? [more inside]
@please @make @it @stop!
A reminder: @newpeople, using @username as a form of reply is discouraged on @MetaFilter. This isn't @twitter. [more inside]
Do we need a posting limit?
