We're all still products being sold. But now we're pigs.

Just over a year ago, blue_beetle commented that "If you are not paying for it, you're not the customer; you're the product being sold." This made the rounds for a bit, as people recognized the truth in it. (Previously and previously on MeTa) Today, his comment has been featured -- without attribution -- on a "demotivational poster" comparing Facebook users to pigs.

This plate of beans, it vibrates?

In a recent thread about Metafilter memes, I used the phrase "Beanplate Insane" to describe my own sense of frustration with certain over-indulged inside jokes on the site. It occurred to me that it would only be appropriate to have an exclusive inside phrase to go along with those exclusive inside jokes, so I submitted "Beanplate Insane" to the editors of the Urban Dictionary, who officially approved the listing a couple days ago and have now posted the term with my Metafilter-specific definition.

Browser/OS stats

Question (and I may have missed where this is): Metafilter is a geeky place - out of a certain curiosity, is there somewhere to get an OS/browser/whatnot stats breakdown for visitors? If not, that would be cool (even if merely in the form of a one-off FPP).

Lend me your ears

I just set up a group for MeFi members over at NeighborGoods, a virtual lending library of "stuff" site. Is there a MediaFilter somewhere?

Every so often I see questions about how we should treat spoilers for ongoing TV shows like Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, etc. What I don't see is any posts actually dedicated to those things. Where are we discussing current TV that spoilers are an issue?

!click and reload ...

About the (fabulous) 'X new comments, show' function: I can't say enough good things about this, as it makes following long threads so easy compared to the old system of having to reload. But why not take it just a small step further - instead of making us click to load them, why not just have the script go ahead and load the new comments when they are detected? (Maybe a user preference?)

Why do you participate on MetaFilter?

So why do you participate here on MetaFilter? Is it because you "have a serious and unhealthy addiction to the internet, perhaps due to issues of procrastination and life avoidance, and ... metafilter is like a group of enablers in encouraging that kind of psychodynamic?" Or, perchance, do you visit frequently for some other reason(s)?

The forum at the end of the universe

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Starship Titanic website sat a specious message board with posts by the senior crew of the fictional ship. This is not its story." The Economist blog "Babbage" explores (in decidedly Adamsian style) the fascinating story of the Starlight Lines forum and its "accidental" community, as told by Mefi's own Yoz Grahame in this truly epic comment from last December. Has the average number of posts increased?

Has the average daily count of front page posts increased over the last five years? When I joined back in 2006, I seem to remember the average being something like 23-25 posts a day. Now it seems to be about 33-36 posts a day. Do the numbers back me up? Or am I imagining things?
