I would have linked to your songs on MeFi Music, if I were you.

Well, there you go. The same tunes are on my web site. But now they're MuFi-approved!

Man, if I called a meetup everytime I gigged…

…well, my gigs would probably be better attended. But MeFi would hate me. More than they already do.

Shameless self-promotion-filter.

I think the pinksuperhero took some abuse for doing this type thing. Promoting your gig in the disguise of a meetup might be genius, but I'm surprised matt's letting it stand.

This doesn't seem right.
Maybe I'm saying this because TPS ultimately took her announcement to MetaChat or because I have a show next Thursday, but it doesn't seem appropriate even though there were meetups around ludwig_van's shows in the UK (those seemed like exceptions to a rule). But maybe I'm wrong. It looks like the show is free which makes a difference in my mind. A little clarity from Matt or Jess would be appreciated. Is it a case by case thing? Double-standard for ludwig_van because he's personable and his music is tasteful? Just a trick of the light?

I play many gigs and I don't post them all to metatalk. It seemed like a nice idea because there was supposed to be a meetup at the same venue last week but it never happened. If you guys don't like it, I guess I won't be seeing you there. If Matt or Jessamyn don't like it, I'd like them to say so, and I won't do it anymore.

And besides, when I asked for a section in MeFi Music to post gigs, lots of folks said "just post them to metatalk."

Here's the ultimate truism about metafilter. There is a huge vocal faction that is pro any position you might possibly take. There is also an equal and opposite faction that will oppose any position you might take. If you find a handful of people who think that it's perfectly ok to whore your band gigs on metatalk, you'll run into the opposing group who think that this is not the place for it.

Naturally, this last group is correct. And those other guys can just blow me.

Well, if people turn up to the show and have a good time, as they seemed to the couple of times I did the same thing in London, I couldn't care less about other people bitching about it in metatalk, particularly people who are nowhere near the city in question. But like I said, if Matt or Jess want to tell me it's off-limits, I'll respect that.

particularly people who are nowhere near the city in question.

My question, and I assume a few others, has to do witih the use of metatalk. It's a legitimate question no matter the city we live in.

Take it personally if you want to.

ludwig_van, I like you and your music. I missed the part about 'lots of folks' telling you to post your gigs to metatalk, sorry about that. I don't want Matt / Jess to tell you it's off limits. I want them to clarify for us what the policy is.

I haven't posted any shows/meetup combos to metatalk because I thought it was an inappropriate use of the gray, particularly after seeing the negative response to TPS's post along those same lines, now if it's cool with them to do so, I might post differently. I'd just like to know. Apologies for the derail.

Fair enough, I didn't mean to come across all pissed off there, but yeah, I also didn't want this thread to become a big etiquette argument.
