Easter Week NYC Meetup

Anyone up for an Easter week NYC Meetup during March 22 - 29? Perhaps we could all do an activity like an Obscure Walking Tour, Hanging out and talking at a bar/restaurant, Seeing a Show/Movie/etc. It's just a thought, I just joined the community and it would be fun to have a meetup with a bunch of other Mefites, and I'm coming back to NYC on break from college and would love to do something.

I'm going to be in town the weekend of the 28th and there may be a MetaChat meetup brewing for friday or saturday of that weekend. So possibly we could amalgamate the two?

The actual weekend of Easter is terrible awful schedule-wise for me (and others, I imagine, who might travel), so the weekend after would be better.

I think friday the 28th would be sweet, I can do sat the 29th also but I'm planning on driving back the 30th so Friday is preferable.

Oh man! I am going to be in NYC for a conference the following week. :-( I was just coming in here to propose a meetup for April 4th or 5th when I saw this thread. Bad timing on my part.

Is there anyone who can't make it to the meetup on the 28th/29th, or, uh, anyone who won't be meetupped-out, who would like to get together on the 4th or 5th?

Why not cap off the night with a great piece of theatre, directed by one MeFite and starring another? The critics love it, and it closes on the 23rd. I'll happily give a discount to mefites!

I can make the weekend of the 21st but I have a birthday party to go to the night of the 22nd so I can make dinner beforehand if you guys are doing that.

And the 28th one and it will just have been a day after my Lasik surgery! So anything where I don't have to see that much would be great.

And the 4th/5th is clear for me.

Ok based on how the thread is going, I propose Friday the 28th at around 7:30-8pm.

Place to be determined by people who actually know the city (central is better, I would assume?).

Del Far, usually the person who posts the thread gets to pick a place. Where would you like to meet? The best Mefi meetups I've been to have been a low key restaurants or quiet(er) bars where food is also served. Central and easy to get to is good as far as location goes.

I already sent a message to Sass about this, but I'm going to let him pick and organize our place of meeting, I'm not that outgoing when searching for great restaurants or bars, all I like to go eat at is Shake Shack (which is outside and you need to take the 6), Pom Fritte (which is really small and out of the way), and McManus (where a lot of the improvisors go to, great for stalking btw, kidding). And the only entertainment I ever see is at the UCB Theater, because its nice and cheap. So I'm gonna leave it up to Sass to decide.

Also I do have an idea for something we could do together, I have a great microphone for recording audio and if we go to a place I can plug my computer in and its quiet we can do a Metafilter Fan Podcast (in tribute to MattHowie and Jessamyn) with all the people who are at the meetup, we can each pick a story we like and talk about it, I think it would be hella fun to do together as a group.

Also the 22nd is World Pillow fight day and for NYC its in Union Square (E 14 St. & Broadway) at 3:00 PM, I know I will be there with Cape and Goggles on, if any Me-fites want to meet to do this I would love to get something after this because I know some can't make the Later date, just throwing it out there.

I'd just like everyone to know, for the record, that I am an affirmed member of Team Vag and therefore not a "him." Del Far wouldn't have known this though.

I am going to ask around and try to scare down a location. Suggestions are welcome, I'm going to go ahead and sidebar it now so that it doesn't get lost now that it's off the front page of MeTa.

But planning wise, does anyone want to use their weekly question to Ask metafilter for good places to meet and eat, and has big tables for all of us and is cool with loud discussion of the sort? I can not use mine because I'm saving it to ask a question about internships.

A few of us think Congee Village would be a fun dinner place. We could do dinner there round 7:30, have some dollar dumplings across the street at Fried Dumpling after, and then frolic around the LES until the wee hours of the morning. How does that sound to everyone?

That sounds AWESOME. I love dumplings. Also, the further downtown the better - my hotel's in the financial district. :P

So it is - Congee Village. 7:30 is good but I may be slightly late due to acts of god or traffic. Hopefully someone will be down for a beer after food.

I'm really excited about this happening, and I'm definitely looking forward to cheap dumplings, I also suggest going to the Upright Citizens Brigade for a 9:30 improv show from the Stepfathers I was gonna go myself, but it would be fun to go with more people. Its a couple subway rides but it is worth it.

Ok, so I booked 10 tickets for both a 9:30 show of the Stepfathers or the 11:00pm show with Death by Roo Roo, if we do actually plan on going to see them, we probably won't. Its rather far out of the way from Congee Village, we would need to take the 6th subway if people want to go, but like i said, we don't have to go, it's also costs 8 bucks, so thats kind of expensive compared to cheap dumplings.

Also, my number is 1 914 310 7516, just in case you can't reach the Pink Super Hero.
